There are many books about cleansing or detox diets for the liver. Has anyone tried them, and what results did you have?

Some people with viral hepatitis that I know have had success in reducing their inflammation with low carb diets. Others swear by the Paleo diet. I think whatever nutrition/diet you stick to it needs to be suitable for a diabetic like yourself.

That makes sense. Thank you.

Good Morning,

There are many different suggested diets that recommend certain foods to help your liver ‘detox’ or with ‘liver cleansing’. However, there is no evidence that toxins build up in the liver and some of these diets can be dangerous for people with liver disease. A healthy balanced diet is the best way to look after your liver. Thank you for the information. I shall read the publication carefully.

I read up on the internet and found numerous sites citing almost miracle cures etc (most based over the pond in America!). With my condition (fatty liver) I tried carrot juice and only did 2 litres of that, its disgusting! Also have used milk thistle tablets with which I felt loads better generally, I take these now and again now.

One thing we have tried to do is eat more fish and fresh veg (my wife has been wonderful in supporting me this way), I think a good balanced diet is what's needed. I have also increased peanuts, probably the salt is bad but I read somewhere that the nuts are beneficial.

also, plenty of water...

This does seem like the common sense approach, and so I'll simply try to have a much healthier diet and see if there's any improvement. There seems to be conflicting views on Milk Thistle and so I might try them for a while too. Thank you very much.

Hi Madmog. I have just started on milk thistle tablets, they say 2-3 a day to start with, mine are 300mg each one, thought that was a lot so now taking one tablet at bedtime. Please let me know how you are doing on them. I think what we all share is the fact try anything what is there to lose R
