cirrhosis, fatigue and joint pain

I have compensated cirrhosis and am now experiencing extreme fatigue and joint pain particularly around shoulders. Has anyone experiencing anything similar. Admittedly the shoulder pain does vary, from barely noticeable to waking me in the night. Following a Dexa scan I was told I had Osteopenia, but don’t know if there is a link. I find by late afternoon I’m ready to nod off, but then have restless sleep, but rise early for work.

Is it both shoulders?

Referred pain from your upper right quadrant to your right shoulder is common, however if it's all your joints that is not specifically liver related and further tests should be done to rule out other things.

hi - I certainly recognise this and others have mentioned it here too. Sorry you are struggling. Have you had any joy with talking to your consultant about it? I gave up trying - they suggested it was depression. Very frustrating.

I’ve had more or less the same pattern for five years after diagnosis and having to stop drinking - I am lucky that as a freelancer I can pack my work into the 2 or 3 good hours before lunch after which I am much less productive and on bad days little more than useless! In general I find that a bit of routine (always lie down late afternoon etc) and careful diet help smooth things out.

I too have osteopenia - I don’t believe this is associated with fatigue etc by itself.

Beyond checking blood and imagining I have found the hepatologists incredibly unhelpful but this forum is very supportive in finding a way to cope - hope you can find your way through

Hi I also suffer from compensated cirrhosis!Had it for yrs..also cirrhosis can cause extreme fatigue and effects the bones as well causing ostopenenia and osteoporosis!

As for shoulder pain could be degenerative osteoarthritis perhaps!

Worth a chat with your GP to find out the cause!

It may help you to have your Vitamin D levels checked. If they are too low, your body cannot form bone adequately. Most people have low D.
