I had an ultrasound 3 weeks ago got letter saying I've to go for a ct scan they will send me a date out for it because there was to much overlying gas to get a fully clear picture of my liver to complete the evaluation I've had to go for a ct scan before 3 are 4 times because of gas but the person doing the ultrasound never mentioned anything about gas blocking pictures they always did before when this happened the last ct scan about 6 months a go was no red flags and all was OK and at the end of the letter it says after I get the ct scan to ring his secretary and chase up results never got a letter like this before should I be worried thanks for reading

Not all 'operatives' (radiographers/sonographers) are qualified to comment on what they are seeing (and many won't at all as they need to be compared to those that have gone before). They send the images through for interpretation and it is probably the person further up the line (radiologist) who has reported that the images are not clear enough and therefore the CT is more appropriate. Nothing to worry about and totally normal, we always just get told the results will be sent to referring consultant and we can discuss those with them.
