Can SOD come back?

A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with Sphincter of Oddi Disfunction (SOD) by process of elimination. My symptoms were similar to gallbladder and hiatus hernia and although scans/endoscopies did confirm both - the few small stones were considered non symptomatic and the sliding hiatus hernia was very small. After a few years of occasional attacks of what I can only describe as death pain (because it's bad enough that you think you're dying while also praying for death to put you out of your misery) I ended up living with 2-3 prolonged attacks daily for over a year. My gallbladder had already been removed at this point.

After a number of investigatory MRI's and endoscopies, I was scheduled for an ERCP to try and get to the bottom of it. The specialist performing the ERCP couldn't find any rouge stones, or much else to explain the attacks, so decided to do a sphincterotomy on the off chance I had SOD and it might help. Well that was in 2022 and I've had next to no problems since.

In the last few months, I've started experiencing mild pains again after eating. It's not nice, but it's not really enough for me to go see my GP yet but I am getting a little worried. I'm sure I remember seeing on here (when I still thought I was having gallbladder attacks) that people with SOD had been fine for a few years and then started with the pain again but now that I've tried searching specifically for that, I can't actually find posts about SOD!

Have I imagined reading these posts? Is this a thing that can happen? Can the sphincter heal after having been cut? Should I be worried?

Any advice would be greatfully received!
