Has anyone had experience of twitching while sleeping with Cirrhosis, my husband has recently started this and I am worried that it is because his HE is getting worse, thank you in advance.

What part of body?

Thank you for taking the time to respond. His legs I think as it is when he is asleep, his jerking wakes me and keeps me awake until it stops. I am worried it is a sign of worsening HE, as he falls asleep when sat down in the afternoon and evening. He generally goes to bed at 9pm and can sleep on until 9 or 10am the next day.

Yes, my husband does this, but less so since he started Rifaxomin so I've always thought it was linked. Sometimes it's woken me up and I've thought he was having a seizure at first - but its definately not a fit thankfully. Since he started rifaxomin, it only happens if he's neglected himself a bit the day before/been busy/ not had normal toilet habits or drunk enough water.Hope that helps

I've just been diagnosed F3 & mild fatty liver, S1. The hepatologist thinks its autoimmune.

I thought I was going mad lately so thank you for posting this!!! Not every time I'm falling asleep but I do this weird quick shuddering/twitching thing I've never done before when I'm nodding off.

Looking back and now I know some things about liver disease there were signs for well over a year. My sleep is appalling.

My husband says I jerk and do what he calls high-jinks all through the night. Its ended up we've had to sleep separately sometimes.

My wife would be the best to answer this question I know I did I don’t think it’s to do with HE but I’m not a doctor. Stay safe All

There is definitely a relationship between muscle twitching and hepatic encephalopathy. Is your husband on medication (rifaximin and lactulose) for hepatic encephalopathy?

Thank you for your reply, Yes both since last November and there was a marked improvement but now this and there are things he is forgetting again, however not as bad as last year when he thought we were all going mad bless him.

I have it I have end of life liver disease waiting for transplant, and I twitch in bed, the alcohol may be effecting his nervous system, it did mine. Get him to docs to investigate
