my son is going for a heart and liver scan to see if a tips procedure is possible . He has a rocket drain and has 9-10 litres drained every week .
has anyone had a TPS fitted ? I’ve read all the information on the British Liver site. but i feel it’s helpful to hear first hand from real people ! Thank you. Regards Carol

My husband had one fitted last year as he has a blood clot in his portal vein and the back pressure was too much. The first time they attempted to fit it they couldn't as clot was too stubborn to get past but a month later they managed to do it. He doesn't have a drain for his ascites, his legs aren't swollen, but his stomach is, but when I asked him last week if his stomach was ascites he said no it was medication induced bloating. I've no idea how true this is as he gets confused.
He did have varices in his oesophagus and liver which ruptured and he bled out which is why he ended up in critical care for a month this time last year and on a ventilator for 10days of that time, but the varices have now collapsed into themselves a few months after the TIPPs and last we heard he hasn't got them anymore so it must have helped 👍
But, the best thing to do is ask the consultant about it. They will talk to your son about it, so ask if you can listen in. I hope it goes well 🙏 sorry I can't help more.

Sorry for delayed reply. Hope appointment with you son went OK? We went to liver doctor today apparently mu husband has a cyst on his pancreas but its 'not a bad one' doctors words and they'll check it again in a year. Oh it's confusing they all seem linked. Body is so complicated. Hope you're ok.
