Accuracy of Ultrasound

Hi everyone,

My latest ultrasound done back in early May did not show any ascites but i have this swollen abdomen that will not shrink at all no matter how well i eat when i have the appetite. My GP says the ultrasound is 99% accurate, that if there was fluids in my stomach/abdomen area, the ultrasound would of picked it up. From people's experiences, how accurate is the ultrasound ? When looking online, i see mix results. Friends who dont see me as much as before think i lost weight since i have lost lots of muscle mass but the reality is that my waist line has gotten much bigger,

Since my f**k up from 3 weeks ago, i'm experiencing some serious issues. My symptoms have become chronic now. The pain in the liver area, pain in mid back right side, headache, nausea, exhaustion, gastro issues, those symptoms use to go away...now that inflammation is always there...3 weeks now. I also have had 3 bouts of incredible itching, starting with the hands and feet and moving to the entire body and eventually goes away....happens right after a hot bath so definitely a connection there.

Someone said in another post that you never know if that last beer or drink is the one that pushes your liver over the edge. Hopefully this isn't the case...just gotta keep doing what i'm doing and hope the body does it's thing.

In my experience, ultrasound scans have been very accurate. My first ever one was 27 years ago and showed a lot of fluid, but at that time nobody knew I had liver issues. More recently I was hospitalised last year and they couldn't scan me because they couldn't see anything because of the ascites, but the next one I had, the ascites had gone save for a few mm by my spleen. But I still have a swollen abdomen and have had for almost 27 years. So mine have been obvious and accurate. Can't speak for anyone else though of course.

I have the same problem. Last scan showed no ascites but although I am a bit of a "fat bird" my distended belly is disproportionate. The test for me was that I recommenced Spironolactone and it had zero affect on the belly and no noticeable increase in urine so I stopped again. I don't know what the answer is
