I hope they have given you some tips on how to build him up. It does always seem strange to me that you have to be really ill but not so ill in order to have a transplant. At least you know what you need to work on and hopefully in 6 weeks time he will be listed

I agree, it's such a difficult balance for medics because it is classed as a life saving operation, so they will only do it to save lives. My husband quite a high ukeld score but because he has remained stable at that for over a year, they are undecided whether he needs the life saving bit .........do I wish him to get worse? Or fear more of him staying this sick forever?? I can't decide ........all I can say is I'm glad I don't have to make the final decision!

A vacation like this might be just what he needs. Do lots of nice walks in the fresh air. Enjoy!

You can do it. I did. I had my transplant at the QE 2 years ago. My UKELD was 61 and I was very malnourished to the point of having an NJ feeding tube as my muscles started to waste away. I’d gone from a healthy 5.4 woman to a tiny frame down to under 6 stone and my bilirubin was over 500. It was also during lockdown. I lived on porridge, Renapro shots and small snacks. I would also eat carbs just before going to sleep ie a banana (as much as I could or a slice of bread as this gave my body something to munch on during the night!

Through sheer determination, I went for a walk every day. It took longer to get ready than the waking! I was in a wheel chair but once out used it was a walking aid for the small steps. Like you, it was bliss being outside in the sun. Never give up, eat when hungry and keep the walking up. Wishing you and your husband all the best on his journey. 🤞💪
