Right Shoulder and arm pain, urinating a lot (darker than usual) and awaiting results

Hi all,

Hello!

Firstly I realise I created a username which is a schoolboy nickname (sorry for the silly name)

Secondly, apologies for the "War and Peace" type first post.

I'm 47. I drank almost every day in my 20s and 30s. I'm an alcoholic, which took me a long time to admit, as my job was getting better/life improving and I only drank beer in the evenings etc. I had my last drink in April 2016 - have not drank for over 6 years.

For quite a while I've been feeling tired. When I gave up alcohol I started feeling very tired, but was told that is natural and the fatigue would go away.

The fatigue didn't go away, but I started going to the gym.

During the lockdown the gym closed and I started doing long walks, which then got me into bad habits - not drinking, but I was eating a lot of junk food.

I've recently started going to the gym again.

For quite a few (probably 10) years now I have had the dull pain in my right side where my liver is, but it only lasted a couple of seconds at a time so ignored it.

About 3 years ago I went to my Dr as the fatigue was really beginning to get me down. I would wake up, have a coffee and need a lie down again. My Dr did say I was doing quite a bit (Full-time job with long hours, degree in spare time, getting older and going to the gym).

Last month the pain in my liver area (middle to right) was always there so I went to see my Doctor and explained everything who asked a few questions and felt my abdomen and arranged a blood and Ultrasound test).

I had the US test last week and have been told my GP will receive the results within 2 weeks.

Since seeing my GP I have developed a right-hand shoulder pain which has made my right arm quite weak and has made sleeping quite difficult. It initially was a pain in the right side of my neck (neck pain is gone now)

I've also been urinating about 30 times a day and in the last couple of days felt a numb pain in my right hand side kidney area.

I've got a blood pressure test on Monday.

I went to the gym yesterday and managed to do a really good cardio workout, but I can't lift with my right arm.

I'm not sure what I'm posting this for. I've had to stop looking at Dr Google.

I should get the results soon. I guess anxiety is playing a part.

In short has anyone else had these symptoms:

I currently HAVE:

right arm and shoulder pain (started with neck pain on the right side)

dull pain in middle/right of abdomen.

urinating a lot - and it is more yellow than usual

dull kidney pain in right hand side

I don't NOT have:

fatigue (although I did used to have it for a long time)

feel sick or have a loss of appetite

jaundice or yellowing of the eyes

red patches on palms or spider like veins

i don't have a high temp or vomit blood

pale poo

Any advice other than wait for My GP to contact me with results?

Thanks in advance.

Hi. l would suggest you ask for your shoulder to be scanned. It could possibly be a rotator cuff injury.

Also get your kidney area scanned it could be kidney stone(s)

You could be dehydrated so get plenty of water down you at least 8 glasses per day and stop eating junk, you may be pre diabetic. Only a doctor can make an accurate diagnosis so make an appointment to arrange those scans and other necessary tests. No more googling and stop worrying just find out what's going on so a remedy can be found.

Laura.

Positive001 - Thanks for your kind words. To clarify I have cut out the junk food - I was eating a lot during the lockdown period. Kidney pain seems to have gone for now.

Now I wait for the results of the scan.

I'm going to keep going to the gym, but I really can't do any lifting with my arms. I have done cardio and leg work outs the last few times, so I definitely can't be one of those people that skip leg day.

Sounds like a UTI or kidney infection

I thought the same thing, back pain and needing the loo more than normal can be a UTI. Right shoulder pain can be linked to the liver, it can also occur after a liver biopsy but it clears up on its own.

I also suffer big time with the shoulder pain I have decompensated liver and ascites for me the shoulder pain is deferred pain from the liver makes arm weak and sleeping is a mission it kinda feels like ya have a dead arm all the time but my pain does move too it always in the shoulder but now and again it's like ( hard to explain ) between bicep and tricep but on the bone like its being stabbed in the bone anyway I know mine is deferred pain but as someone mentioned it could be rotor cuff but I also remember years ago I was very stressed about something forget what now but the stress caused pain in my neck then moved down to shoulder and felt much the same anyway hope this helps oh as for peeing I constantly feel like I want to go but just dribbles really however I have ascites and was told not to drink too much water also helped with the dull ache around liver hope this helps

Thanks all.

Paul43 - The way you described the pain in the arm is very similar to what I'm feeling. Sleep is difficult - the constant dead arm is a good description. I've managed to get a system where I can sleep on my side with a pillow under my chest that helps a lot. I'm peeing around 30 times a day, but it is always a decent amount. I drink about 2 litres of water a day.
