Fibroscan and symptoms.

Hello. I took a fibroscan about 4 months ago and it came back with 197 CAP and 5.9 kpa. I have been a drinker for about 9 years now (heavily for about two) but have been limiting myself to only weekends for the past two years (binging most fridays and saturdays). If I didn't drink for about 12 days prior to fibroscan, how likely is it that these scores are true to my actual condition? I'm asking because I have been experiencing abdominal/belly discomfort like bloating, tenderness, shortness of breath, feeling kind of like my diaphragm is being pushed up. This has been a constant feeling for about a year now and I'm aware that my fibroscans show "normal" results by most metrics. About two months ago I had a really bloody stool, but only on that occasion. I'm thinking maybe hemorrhoids, which is scary since they happen with portal hypertension. I've also had LFT bloods done three times in the past year, all coming back normal. What gives?

Hi, it seems according your fibroscan result that your liver is in quite a good condtion. Regarding your symptoms please do not ignore them and see a doctor. Ultrasound would not be a bad idea but consult all your tests before.

According to your F/S which if done correctly is considered one of the best scans for both scarring and fatty liver, your liver is normal, in fact its in good condition. No fat, and no scarring. ie the average KPA for a normal liver is under 7, with around 5.3 the norm. Have you had LFT bloods done? It would seem at those rates your issues will not be related, perhaps anxiety.

Yes. I did have LFTs done two weeks before the F/S and they came back within normal range. I have endoscopy scheduled all the way to May 11th. I wonder what they'll find. I mentioned the bleeding to the gastro and he said nothing about it so not sure what he expects to find in an endoscopy. I do suffer from heartburn, but one might think that my issues would be found on the lower part of the digestive tract. Thank you for your relieving reply!

Just based on your normal bloods, that indicates that your liver is still performing its duties, good news. You had a F/S that showed normal range for KPA and CAP, again good news. That does not mean that something is not going on but could be a number of non Liver issues, ie IBS, IBD, SIBO, reflux etc etc. But short of a biopsy which they will not do in your case, you have done as much as you can re Liver check. So an gastric scope may show gastric issues
