Hi BraveKhan

Welcome to the forum (I know you've been here a while, but first post and I hope you continue to join in)

I'm sure you already know what you need to do. it is just we never want to do it :) .

Healthy eating and exercise.

Fatty liver in itself is a very manageable condition, but, problems that can arise when we do not take steps to improve our health can be very serious.

You need to be very strong willed, throw away all bad foods in your home, anything high in salt, sugar and fat (if there is no temptation in the house you cannot be tempted). You need to start an exercise regime and stick to it. Do whatever you can and try to increase it whenever you can.

There are lots of very nutritious foods out there and plenty of healthy recipes, I've added the link to the NHS mediterranean diet.

Thanks for your reply i an definitely trying now to reduce weight and get rid of this somehow. The only thing i really want to know is what stage it is at and is it reversible or atleast stopping its progress from becoming something dangerous.

NAFLD can have different stages so you are quite right to want to find out more.

NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) have devised guidelines with the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) that state people diagnosed with NAFLD should have further testing to assess for their risk of fibrosis- stiffening or scarring in the liver.

The specific blood tests are Fib-4 score blood test or an Enhanced Liver Fibrosis (ELF) blood test. A specific scan called a FibroScan also estimates fibrosis.

You may want to discuss this with your own GP who will be able to look up the NICE guidance.

is it true that most people with NAFLD never progress to other things like fibrosis and Cirhosis ?

Only if people do stick to healthy eating and exercise, they can (and have) greatly improved their health but alternatively, it can progress as far as cirrhosis. If you read other peoples stories of their experience with cirrhosis, you will definitely want to improve your health.

take care

I was in the same boat last year. Weighted 330, now 189. A Mediterranean diet is excellent for this! My enzymes dropped from the 140’s, down to 12, fibroscan dropped from 8 to 7 KPa. Very hard work, but we’ll worth it
