Anyone have experience with these? I’m still awaiting diagnosis, referral to gastro long wait time… just wondered if these were liver related or something else? Will mention this to GP also in the coming weeks,

Along with many other symptoms these Appeared on a few fingers and haven’t injured them or anything , thanks in advance 🙂 (And apologies if these are non liver related just wondered if it was a common finding)

Thanks all and happy new year!

Hi Debs

I believe that splinter haemorrhages can be related to liver disease, but it is possible that it is unrelated.

I do not know anything about them apart from the only time I have seen them was when I was on a Desmond (NHS diabetes education) course. One of the newly diagnosed diabetics had them on her fingernails and in that case it was directly attributed to diabetes.

I'm just guessing here, but I assume it is something to do with the small blood vessels (which can be damaged from high glucose level in blood).

Out of curiosity, do they cause any pain? Do they bleed when the lines get to the end of the nails?

Hi Dave,Thanks, no there is no pain nor bleeding. Just the purple lines, another confusing body change to add to the list! I was praying it might not be as serious as liver disease but all these things that keep cropping up sure are pointing in that direction, I just hope the GP will see me about this new symptom (they haven’t been entirely helpful, just repeat bloods etc tk try and re assure me)

Thanks again

Hi 🙂 Yes I have (if it is the same thing) one nail just decided to crack/split. I noticed it slowly splitting from the top, then the more I noticed it, the more it was obvious it went down to the base of nail bed - cuticle.

A tiny bit went red, then black which I presume is as air got to it. I have to cut it right back and glue with nail glue when I remember.

But it's nothing compared to other medical issues. My GP said it was to do with Cirrhosis. I have alsorts of lumps, bumps, weird veins (inside and out) related to Cirrhosis and this is nothing for me personally to worry about. I just try to stay positive and think 'Well I've got two arms, two legs I think myself lucky'.

Hope that helps.

Take good care 🙂

definitely the best way to look at this Kji. In perspective to other problems it is quite minor and on it's own does not add up to something to worry over too much.

Yes it is, and thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it.It’s not just this symptom that bothers me, it’s extreme tiredness in the day even though I sleep 8 hours at night, constant RUQ and right shoulder pain, cherry angioma and one spider, floating stool, itchy eyes, terrys looking nails, nausea ALOT, basically feeling generally rubbish day in day out too,

It’s just everytime I try and be calm and believe my GP who tells me I’m ok another symptom crops up…

Anyway thanks again,

Take care both

Hi,Not really GP suspected gastritis and gave me omeprazole, hasn’t helped the pain. Otherwise nothing been waiting on referral to gastro since July and feeling worse and worse in meantime convinced it’s my liver due to heavy alcohol use (now sober) I have a 1 year old and I’m literally terrified

Thank you

Have they done any blood tests, ultrasound scans, or had any abdominal examination?

When you say "due to heavy alcohol use" what are you referring to unit wise and may I ask what? 🙂 I'm allowed to ask because I used to drink serious amounts. You know the joke about putting gin on the cornflakes..mine was vodka, except I had no cornflakes or lunch or much food really. Not big, not clever. But if I can help anyone, I will 🙂

Thank you!Yes an ultrasound one year ago looking for gallstones which said the liver was ok but I don’t believe it was thorough, and 3 sets of LFT since all normal apparently,

She has felt my tummy too,

A lot I mean I am 36 now and until very recently I can’t think of many days I didn’t drink. Was worse in my late 20,s and 30s so far, mainly wine although spirits (or anything really) at times. Was a cater for my sister at this time and I guess I struggled with it looking back,

A bottle a day at least sometimes more at weekends could easily drink 2.

Obviously stopped when I was pregnant but started creeping in again after I lost my mum, never drunk but again a bottle a night more when my daughter staying at her grans, I now wish I had never touched the stuff.

Thank you so much for replying

You have addressed the issue so big well done for that 👍

You know what, it's easy to say try not to worry, if the US scan and bloods are normal, then that's good news .

I do not mean this in any negative way, the brain can do amazing things like convince you that you are ill. I am not saying you aren't. I can NOT give any medical advice obviously.

However, my advice to you IS wait for the appointment with the gastro consultant, stay off the pop, eat well, exercise as much as possible, look at good beautiful things, things that make you smile and stay positive.

Stay positive, because if you can do that now, you're half way home. I am a great believer in positive mental attitude, I feel very strongly that's why I'm here now, typing to you. Make yourself chuckle do a little mad 💃dance, sing out of tune on purpose really loud in the car or wherever.

Just hang in there until you see the Consultant. I'm sure you will be better than you think.

Take good care, look after little ones, stay safe 🙂
