Is there any way of getting home help for my husband who has decompensated liver and is struggling with nutrition and has lost weight?

We need a part time carer in Buckinghamshire, some physical therapy as he has really declined and I am the sole breadwinner . What is available through gp/ social service? Any help from liver trust? I’m struggling to cope.

Have you seen the BLT page and publication on 'Planning for the Future' ? It details information about possible support etc.

Definitely see if your GP and local social services can help with local help plus don't forget that local hospice's can provide support (they are not just for folks who are at the end of life!). Your husbands liver unit may also be able to offer advice and support. All the transplant units have on team social workers.

Hope you get sorted out soon.

Hi Shilpa,

Welcome to the forum, we are sorry to read what a tough time you are both going through.

We have a list of institutions you could contact on our website and I have included a direct link to the page below;

The only two other places I can think of for you to direct your enquiry are detailed below.

gov.uk/pip

This is the government website and you will find advice on claiming Personal Independence Payments, it will guide you through the eligibility process.

You could also try contacting Citizens Advice Bureau, if you log onto their home page using the link below, you will then be able to search for your local branch.

Unfortunately, The British Liver Trust is a small charity and we do not have the funds available to help individual patients. We would suggest to start with the GP first who should be able to guide you with local supportive care services.

Our nurse helpline is open again on the 4th of Jan if you would like a supportive chat on 0800 652 7330 10am to 3pm.

We hope that is helpful, take care,

Hi if you contact your GP he can make a referral to the Social Care Team, Social Care will make there assessments and hopefully put a Care package in place, He also maybe eligible Benefits to help towards any costs if any. Take Care xx🧚🧚
