Question on labs….

Hey guys. Brand new to all this and not sure what I’m seeing - so hard to get reliable information out there.

AST 24

ALT 18

GGT 22

High ferritin (404)

Dr has raised the alarm and wants to check for hemochromatosis and alcoholic live disease. I have read that the AST ratio is high at 1.26 but all else seems fine. I had a DVT blood clot and was recently on eliquis for 3 months but just got off. These labs were taken as part of that process.

While I was on eliquis, I quit drinking for the first 4 weeks and then it was 2-3 drinks a day for a couple nights. So I’m not sure what the dr is worried about.

Is slightly elevated ferritin and high AST ratio enough to worry about ALD ?

I’m not a tee-totaler but not out of control either. I usually have 3-4 days a week where I don’t touch the stuff.

Thanks and sorry if this is dumb. I’m kinda freaked out by it all.

I think more tests are needed. Have you got ultrasound? What is your platelets and bilirubin? Normal? You have to hear your dr. Funny things about diagnosing liver is that is usually ruling out possible factors that can damge it.

One more thing what is your lab normal level for ferritin? Is it not 15 - 400 µg/l for men?

385 was the high range they gave me. I came in at 400.

Platelets were normal. Bilirubin was normal.

Thanks so much for the responses, guys!

My Ferritin was 1750 but fell to 400 in 2 weeks and normal in a month off boozeI wouldn’t worry too much. Get more tests and maybe you need to curv the booze but your stats don’t look like you should expect a nasty shock

Does a ferritin level of 400 and iron saturation of 49% definitely mean cirrhosis? My labs are normal otherwise.
