Sorry to hear that your father in law is feeling so poorly. When you say he hasn't got a specialist appointment for two weeks I take it he already has a liver disease diagnosis. If he feels terribly poorly or has increased symptoms that might make his case more urgent then you can always try to bring forward his appointment (contact consultants secretary).

Obviously from the limited information you've shared we can't really offer much more in the way of guidance.

At 85 he might not be unrealistic in thinking about future plans and in fact the British Liver Trust has some guidance on 'Planning for the Future' when someone has liver disease. britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

He has not been told anything yet, just been sat on Google, keep telling him it could be all sorts of things and wait till he sees the Dr before jumping to conclusions

Until he's had tests and confirmation of a diagnosis then yes he's jumping the gun. Has he got lots of symptoms or just the deranged bloods? Is there any obvious reason why he might have liver issues? Many liver issues (even at the more serious end of things) can often be slowed providing the cause of the issue is identified, treated or halted.

Fingers crossed the appointment in a couple of weeks time reveals more information for you all.

Best wishes,

Katie

Just the bloods

A Liver issue would not get diagnosed with single reading of a high GGT. GGT is also found in the Heart.

Hi and welcome,

As the other members have said, very little can be diagnosed from one blood result. Hopefully your father in law can speak with his own doctors to arrange additional blood tests and possible scans to investigate this more.

Also, it would be a good idea to step away from Dr Google...

Best wishes.
