Question for Others Who Have Been Diagnosed with NAFLD

How did you give up sugar? I was diagnosed 9 months ago & so far the hardest thing for me has been cutting out sugar. I eat pretty healthy, well-balanced meals throughout the day. Lots of protein & veggies. Drink only water. But, my weakness has always been sweets. I do good if we don't have them in the house, but it's hard to completely eliminate them with two small children & husband who also likes his sweets. I know it's very important that I do this... Also, if anyone with NAFLD is willing to share some healthy meal plans, I would appreciate it so much. ♡ I'm running out of ideas.

Take a look at my posts and my journey. You may find it useful. No matter how many temptations are around you, you have to be strong. I have not touched a single dessert in over 8 months. Mind over matter

I've eaten the worst foods all my life, I dislike the taste of fish and all vegetables except potatoes, baked beans and processed peas. I lived on fast food, fried food and everything that was mainly sugar so I understand the difficulty of changing diet. Fcvfre is definitely the inspiration on here, a true success story of what can be achieved by life changing determination and great recipes.

My lapses are like you, my wife virtually lives on chocolate and crisps (chips in the USA) and we want what we see. I have made a cupboard with a lock and only she has the key, she tends to eat when I do not see, but if not, she will not put any on display.

What I have done is made myself walk and eat fruit. I lost 50 pounds in 6 months. I have stuck there, I'd like to lose another 10 pounds but my weight tends to yoyo up and down at this weight.

Also diabetic ice cream is delicious and porridge with some berries in the morning really fills me up for hours and tastes sweet.

there are diabetic sweets and I really like the hard licorice bears but some of the others are like the strongest laxatives known to man, so only to be used as a occasional treat not to be eaten by the handful or you will spend all day within 5 seconds of the nearest bathroom :)

Take care

Dave

HI Abrawley, I have the exact same problem you do with sugar. I feel like I am programmed to want something sweet after dinner.

my solution is one of a few options:

1) I have some almonds that are covered with dark chocolate dust. They have about 2g of sugar per pack, so not to bad. I'll have those with some berries

2) I found some keto candy bars made my lily's which have sugar alcohol and stevia, and absolute ton of fiber. I try to eat 1/4 of a bar so I am not going crazy like I would pre NAFLD and eat the whole bar. Just something sweet and some berries.

3) I started making my own keto cookies using almond flour, cream cheese and stevia. They still have a ton of calories but are low carb and no sugar.

And then I try to save the cheat days for the really good stuff.

I found a keto type diet and eating a couple of portions of berries/fruit a day. Also two squares of dark chocolate occasionally. All helped to stop sugar addiction.
