Newly diagnosed,

Hi I had a fibro scan yesterday, my score was only14, but was told that was cirrhosis, I’ve had a phone call today already to go for an ultrasound and bloods, does anyone know if early cirrhosis is treated with meds, thank you for any reply’s.

Hi Oscar. Cirrhosis can cause a whole host of varying symptoms and all at different times over the course of many years. As and when the occur, see your doctor / specialist who will prescribe what you need. Read through all the information on the livertrust website where you will learn all about your condition and how to take care of your liver by eating healthily and generally taking care of yourself. Best wishes.

Fibroscan alone isn't sufficient to confirm a diagnosis of cirrhosis, it has to be done via the jigsaw of other tests including the ultrasound and bloods that have already been ordered. Fibroscan can't tell the difference between ongoing inflammation and actual fibrotic tissue so the bloods will see if you have inflammation - if you do then it's possible that the kPa score given was falsly inflated.

What was the reason for the fibroscan? Are you having symptoms? Is there a particular reason other than the scan which might lead you to believe you have liver issues?

If indeed you do have cirrhosis then finding the cause is imperative so that you can either have that treated or indeed make lifestyle changes to help your liver. Early cirrhosis may be reversible providing the cause of the 'assault' on the liver is identified and dealt with.

Have a read up about the condition on the BLT site at:-

No meds!Just lifestyle changes to remove the cause, including booze!

Meds are for symptoms only.

Hopefully you won't ever need them if you look after your liver now.

Hi, my cirrhosis is non alcoholic, I also eat healthy, I’ve been having liver pain for a few months now and have also lost weight.

There are charts for interpreting Fibroscan scores:

centexstudies.com/understan...

A kpa of 14 is usually F3, fibrosis, depending on the cause of your liver disease.
