Can someone help me. In a state of panic over my symptoms

I’m 38 and for the past 10 years drank wine. At first just weekend evenings but over the last 5 years I’ve drank 4-5 bottles a week. I know that’s so bad now. Since March last year my drinking increased to most evenings give or take a day off.

About 3 weeks ago I woke up with excruciating pain in my upper right abdomen and back. The pain lasted 48hours and then eased but now I’m left with an occasional discomfort in that area. Almost like a bruised burning feeling. I stopped drinking immediately apart from last weekend I had a bottle of wine.

Has anyone experienced this before?

It's no good panicking. If there is something to be concerned about (and there may not be) then your first port of call should be your doctor. Explain your high alcohol intake and concerns over your liver and get some liver bloods done in the first instance. Your liver doens't have pain receptors so technically there is no such thing as liver pain, however, your liver is contained within a membrane called the glisson's capsule which can become stretched and strained if the liver within is inflamed or enlarged and this can be painful. Liver bloods should highlight if indeed there is any ongoing liver inflammation.

Remember there are other organs in the vicinity of the liver including the gall bladder, pancreas etc. and alcohol doesn't only affect your liver.

Get yourself checked out. None of us here can say for sure what state your liver may be in so be honest with your doctor over your level of intake, get tested and take it from there.
