PBC advice please

Hi all, my specialist is adamant that the 'burning' pain I feel in the right side under my ribs is nothing to do with my recently diagnosed PBC. I have it most evenings now. I challenged her, as I have frequently read that it's one of the symptoms, but she said she has 400 PBC patients and this is not something she really sees. I'm starting to worry that if it's not the PBC, then what is the pain?? Surely if I've got an 'itis' pain is to be expected? Does anyone else with PBC experience this pain? Many thanks

I have advanced PBC and the only pain I ever had under my ribs was from my gallbladder, which was fixed when it was taken out. That pain was excruciating and worse after eating.

The pains I get from PBC are in my joints. Liver disease is often known as a silent disease because it doesn't usually present with pain. It tough to be recently diagnosed because PBC can have very different progression in patients. A lot of people who find it early will never really be troubled with it other than having to take meds every day. For some it is a quick spiral, for others it doesn't really progress at all. Have you been started on urso?

As your specialist says it is not your liver causing the pain it might be worth a chat with your GP to see if they can find the cause.
