How rare are duodenal varices? Are the treated same way as oesophegael ones and what would be the signs they are bleeding?
Know the feeling when you wake up full of questions?!!

I had bleeding varices and am not really sure exactly where they bled from? In my case, I was vomiting blood and called an ambulance. After that I had emergency surgery and woke up on the ward.
I would suggest that you inquire with your husbands liver team, but I think that they would be dealt with in a similar manner?
Hi,
Duodenal varices are quite uncommon. If they become problematic then they are often managed endoscopically ( via a gastroscope camera) in a similar way to gastric and oesophageal varices.
If they cannot be managed endoscopically, then radiological interventions or surgery are options.
As Mark has already said on this thread, we would also suggest to discuss this with your consultant and make a list of questions.
Best wishes
