How do you know for sure it is cirrhosis without going to the doctors? They can do the necessary tests or scans to confirm whether or not it is.

If it is confirmed then it is essential to get medical treatment because having cirrhosis brings with it all sorts of complications - some of which can be life threatening.

Spider angioma

A spider angioma isn't sufficient to confirm a diagnosis of cirrhosis "A spider angioma or spider naevus is a type of telangiectasis found slightly beneath the skin surface, often containing a central red spot and reddish extensions which radiate outwards like a spider's web. They are common and may be benign, presenting in around 10–15% of healthy adults and young children."

If you have concerns about your liver you should get checked out, why convince yourself you have a potentially life threatening condition based on a skin blemish that can occur in totally healthy folks?

Not necessarily cirrhosis either. Go and see your doctor for tests.

Self-diagnosis of cirrhosis isn't very scientific. No one on this site is medically qualified, but we share our experiences in the hope that it will help others.

Many of us have been on a liver journey and have come out the other end, with some of us having been reborn in the process. Cirrhosis is certainly not the end. But it does help to have your mind in the right place, and a willingness to survive.

To give up and adopt a “why bother going to a doctor” attitude is like giving up on life when so many are fighting for theirs.

Please explain more about your condition, or if you prefer you can message someone privately. Don’t give up, we can hopefully help.

Best wishes

Richard.

Even if it is decompensated?

The fact that you've reached out to us shows that you really do want help. There are a lot of treatments that can help cirrhosis patients and it is possible to live well with cirrhosis for many years, even decades.

I know you must be scared and angry, maybe even embarrassed, but you must see a doctor. You may not have cirrhosis and any damage to your liver could be reversible, but you won't know until you see a doctor. Your GP will have seen many people in the same situation as you, so please go and talk to them and let us know how you get on.

If you think you have cirrhosis, as others have said you must see your doctor. Cirrhosis comes with a whole host of symptoms which are far worse than the 2 you have mentioned, and would need treating, some as a matter of urgency. Self diagnosis of a disease like cirrhosis is incredibly dangerous so shouldn't be taken lightly. You must have a reason for believing you have it and what caused it so call your surgery to arrange contact with your GP through whatever means is available to you at this time.

I will simply reiterate what is suggested by forum members- please seek medical assessment and diagnosis.

The forum will be here to support you

I kind of feel the same way. I have had some symptoms for years, and a couple of years ago started feeling bloated and uncomfortably full all the time....it now goes away after finding effecitve supplementes unless I relapse a day or two or more, but I am abstinent now. The symptoms have gotten worse over the years but I now just live my life as if I have it..it's the healthy thing to do anyway and what I'd do if I did have it. Going to the doctor and getting absolute confirmation and have medical visits all the time doesn't sound appealing and seems like if anything would give me more worry.

When you start getting the severe symptoms you will need urgent medical attention. If your GP is unaware of your present symptoms and the probable cause, your life is at risk. I would have been far more afraid of taking unprescribed suppliments than visiting my doctor for approved and regulated medication.

If I get severe symptoms I will see a doctor. My supplements helped immensely and are really only Culturelle (a digestive enzyme) and Phoschol PPC, which is doctor recommended. I am not recommending this for anyone, but they work well for me, as well as staying abstinent and eating healthy. Need to get back into exercise though.

Good you are looking after yourself with diet and exercise. Just be aware if symptoms kick in. Take care

By the time you get severe symptoms it could be too late. My hubby didn't know he had anything wrong with his liver until he had a potentially life threatening massive bleed from burst varices, he ended up in HDU and doctor has repeatedly told us how close he came to death.8 years down the line, he's stable, he receives regular monitoring to make sure he hasn't got further varices, has scans to pick up potential changes in his liver that could be cancerous and because he has these scans every 6 months it would be quick enough to put treatments in place.

Hubby had minor symptoms but being t-total and super fit we never associated what we were seeing as anything liver related - in fact his doctor had signed him off work two years before the bleed with stress and anxiety with no physical tests done.

His cirrhosis is auto immune related but by god if we'd had the chance to get treatment in place sooner then it might have prevented how far it got.

Judging by the comment above by the poster who has now gone hidden it would mean she is scared of doctors for some crazy reason. They are there to help, treat and cure if they possibly can. Certainly not people to fear
