My dad has decompensated cirrhosis related to alcohol and is not a candidate for transplant. Anyone with similar stories?

He has his ascites drained every month or so now and has been doing relatively okay. He hasn't had any jaundice but he is still very weak and cannot walk or anything. I'm extremely nervous and absolutely terrified. I don't want my best friend gone but it seems like what may happen? He has hospice care which has helped but I really just want some kind of hope. He's 68 and transplant just isn't an option.

You can only do your best and be there for him. It is terrifying, I know. but you can do it - when it comes to the crunch we surprise ourselves. Take all the help you are offered to care for him and to make him and you as comfortable as possible. Thinking of you and sending love and light. Xxx

Sometimes I come on here and read stories of crazy recoveries but based on people's responses it doesn't seem like he really has much of a chance.

I don’t know my dear. Just act with kindness and you can’t go wrong whatever happens. Take care.

My mother in law has ascites too, and she isn’t a candidate for a transplant either. I too am desperately looking for some way to make her pain go away. She was able to get a port that allows 1 liter of fluid to be drained every other day without her having to leave her house so maybe you could see if that’s an option. She is still in pain but I know that gives her some relief. We are going to really focus on her diet and see if that will offer some relief. They always say you are what you eat, and I’m a believer of that. I think if she stuck to a good diet it would be an enormous help. Prayers sent up for you and your dad. 🙏🏻
