It's going to be a nice quiet new Years Eve for me too! I'm going to be curled up on the sofa with my sons cocker spaniel Murphy watching lots of fun loving movies whilst eating a delicious chicken curry cooked by hubby! To me this is total stress free bliss after the last hectic few weeks and a great way to say bye bye to 2019 and welcome 2020 with an open heart to one and all!

Oh Miles, I know exactly what your saying but Aluna who you know is my 6 year old GD loves Murphy so much it wouldn't be fair to even suggest the idea as she totally loves him!
He's now being cuddled and spoilt with lots of tuna and scrambled eggs as he's quiet an old chap of 14 with a few illnesses with lots daily meds! 👎

I feel like Scrooge at Christmas, I’ve tried but I don’t feel Happy in the slightest. Being a Scot, New Year heralds a special time, but I’m sat here on my own with two 18 year old cats that look like they’ll outlive Methuselah feeling very guilty as I succumbed to temptation*. So much for will power.
I shooed my husband and son off to his sister in darkest Wales and have just given him a hard time for leaving me on my own.
Perverse or what??!
I’ve tried to do the right thing but I just feel desperately, desperately sad. Since my last post I’ve been to another funeral, on Monday 30th in Oxford. That takes me to 4 funerals in 4 weeks. I only just made it to this last one and it was the most important of them all. A call I’ve been dreading for 20 odd years, I literally feel bereft. So what do I do........ tell my husband to go to his sisters, then be absolutely vile to him for travelling 350 miles away for me and to top it off I give in to temptation*. What the hell is wrong with me?
Just shoot me and don’t miss.
* I’m not being trite but I’ve just eaten a whole tube of Pringles, again perversely salt & vinegar whilst having been on a low salt diet since 28th Dec 2018. I suppose all I can do is drink bucket loads of water and hope to hell I don’t swell up.

Let's just say our overindulgence was last year in the past. Not an easy time of year for the strongest brave. At least the immediate family don't have to suffer our gurney faces for the sake of auld Lang syne. 🙄

Hi there BH65. Please don't beat yourself up for not standing as tall as you would have liked to. When we fall, we can only pick ourselves back up and dust ourselves off.
I'm sorry to read of so many losses. A difficult time.
Bucket loads of water sounds like a great idea. This doesn't have to be anything more than a very temporary setback.
I wish you more joy this New Year than last and brighter and healthier days ahead for all struggling.

Just think how generous you have been saying that your husband and son can go to his sisters in Wales. You should be very proud of yourself just for that 👍.
But of course I’m very sorry to hear about all of the funerals you have had to go to 😕. But that’s in the past now - try and put that behind you and look forward to your husband and son coming home!

Firstly please, please do not kick yourself for having a melt down after trying your best to cope with all the sadness and the christmas stress plus everything else you've not been able to write within your message! I bet if you asked each and everyone of us we can all recall having a melt down at some point in our lives! I know I've had a few, or should I be honest and say I've had quiet alot of sadness and very tough times over many years, but somehow I fought my way back with having supportive friends which you definately have here so you could be back on the road to happiness.
It's a New Day and a New Year so let's see if we can together get you back on track. I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but do you have a teensy bit of strength in you to survive just today, don't think about tomorrow or next week just today?
Now how about having a nice shower or bath if you prefer and washing some of that 2019 down the plug and bring in a little of the new you, I know It's a small step but let's try it as you may be a little surprised.
I'm now going to leave you to think about all the lovely messages you've received and I'm here if you need me like many others! PM if you like.
We all love you so please remember that and stop knocking yourself down!
