Feeling worried

Since February ive been troubled with loose stools, stomach bloating and severe pain in my right upper abdomen and right round my back. I had some bloods done which didn't reveal anything, then was admitted to hospital and had a small operation for investigation. It was discovered that i had ni bowel abnormalities which was great but that my liver was enlarged with several lesions. I received a letter to go for a contrast detailed ultrasound last week. Thr scan lasted an hour and there were 4 people all talking in medical lingo but i could clearly see a big black shape on the screen which they were measuring and taking pictures of. At the end the doctor said that the report would be sent to the surgeon who requested it to be done and will be in contact but things looked ok though there was a possible large hemangioma. Once i heard the word tumor its stressing me. Its awful waiting in limbo for answers.

Hi, I understand how worrying this is for you, Doctors often forget you are at present when doing scans etc and revert to their medical lingo! You are focusing on the negative here and gone for ‘tumour’. Your Doctor has said things look okay though there is a possible hemangioma which is a benign tumour. Why don’t you ring your Doctor and tell them how worried you are about it? They are the best person to advise you and put your mind at rest. In the meantime, to help your liver I would suggest eating a healthy diet and regular exercise regardless of whether you have weight to lose

And don’t drink alcohol. My liver was enlarged because of a rubbish lifestyle and being overweight, after I switched to a healthier lifestyle my liver returned to a normal size and started healingitself. Hope this helps, Owlie

Hi Yorkie85

We appreciate how stressful tests are, you could consider contacting your own GP and ask to be talked through the scan findings?

Haemangiomas are the most common of all benign ( non cancerous) solid tumours, the doctors may be planning further investigations/ scans to examine this, again, you can clarify this with your own GP.

Here is the link to our publication 'Benign tumours and cystic disease of the liver' that does detail Haemangiomas;

We hope that is helpful and that you can obtain reassurance and clarification from your own doctors,

Best wishes
