IgG stands for immunoglobulin G antibody. Negative means you don't have antibodies in your blood for whatever you were being tested for e.g. the various viral forms of hepatitis. If IgG was positive it would mean that you had been exposed to the virus & your body developed antibodies which will be detected in your blood for the rest of your life. Negative IgG means you have never been infected with whatever was being tested for (usually the various forms of viral hepatitis).

Thank you Edward. It just said ImG number super high and then it said igG negative and Ana negative but sma was high positive. He thinks I hVe PBC/ AIH overlap . Maybe it was checking for that?

I presume you meant IgM was super high. IgM stands for Immunoglobulin M.

Dr. Melissa Palmer's Guide To Hepatitis and Liver Disease:

" Immunoglobulins are proteins associated with the immune system, some of which are made by the liver and some of which are made by leukocytes—white blood cells (WBCs). A variety of immunoglobulins are increased in many people who have chronic liver disease. Elevations of the immunoglobulins A, G, and M (IgA, IgG, and IgM) can be suggestive of specific liver diseases."

A super high IgM is suggestive of Primary Billary Cirrhosis (PBC).

SMA stands for Smooth Muscle Antibody. A positive value is suggestive of autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). Your guess that the specialist was checking for PBC and AIH overlap is probably correct.

The high SMA doesn't necessarily mean that you have auto immune hepatitis. People who have Primary Billary Cirrhosis can have a positive SMA but it can be transient.

Dr. Melissa Palmer's Guide To Hepatitis and Liver Disease:

"About 8 to 12 percent of people who have PBC also have AIH. These people have the clinical features of AIH, such as very elevated transaminases and the autoantibodies of AIH—antinuclear antibody (ANA) and/or smooth muscle antibody (SMA). However, they also have the presence of antimitochondrial antibody (AMA) in their blood, which is diagnostic of PBC. It has been suggested by some experts that those people who test positive for AMA should not be considered to have AIH. This is because there is such a strong association of AMA with PBC. In fact, it has been demonstrated that features of AIH in people with PBC may be transient."

You may have Primary Billary Cirrhosis indicated by your super high IgM. Whether or not you have Auto Immune Hepatitis is less clear. The SMA being high positive and suggestive of Auto Immune Hepatitis can be a transient effect of having PBC.
