Hi, it’s Beefeater. Haven’t been following posts. Does anyone experience lots of burping and farting? Seems to me that I’ve got too much of air coming out of me and even from my ears that I feel like I’ll float like a full blown balloon. Also, when my gasses are accumulated, my right arm goes limp like a stroke victim. Thanks for any answer. Beefeater
Too much gas: Hi, it’s Beefeater. Haven... - British Liver Trust
Too much gas
Most likely too much fibre. My stomach fills with gas when I eat a high fibre cereal and/or wheat bran. The technician who did my two ultrasounds was shocked by the amount of gas he saw on the screen in my stomach & bowel. I've cut back on my fibre intake a little & it has helped. I don't feel that the gas is doing any harm.
"These uncomfortable side effects of excessive fiber can occur when someone eats more than 70 grams (g) of fiber a day. This is not uncommon, and it may be more likely in a person following a vegan, whole food, or raw diet."

OMG, thank you so very much!!! I thought it was my anxiety. I’m just so afraid of not ridding my stomach of contents everyday due to fear of ammonia. I’m glad it’s not me going bananas!!! So how many grams of fiber is needed for elimination? Thank you. I’m so happy for reply.
You don't need a lot according to the article in the link in my previous post. I get almost as much as I need from just one bowl of 110 grams of cereal. I also eat several oranges per day & I often eat a can of beans plus a lot of vegetables which results in my stomach having a lot of gas. I also used to make a milkshake & use it to wash down 8 or 10 tablespoons of wheat bran & oat bran but I realised it was way too much bran & caused massive bloating. Drinking several cups of coffee a day helps with elimination because it acts like a laxative.
"The optimal amount of fiber varies based on an individual's gender, age, and pregnancy status.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommend the following for dietary fiber intake:
• 25 g per day for adult women
• 38 g per day for adult men
• less fiber after aged 50 years old (21 g for women, 30 g for men)
• more fiber when pregnant or lactating (at least 28 g per day)"
Thank you very much
Hi Edward1952 and all: I’m so blessed to have found this support group. I learn so much and hope that the younger generation will learn more how to care for their liver. I’m a baby boomer and was diagnosed at 71 years young. I didn’t know what the liver did for the body. I partied young and took lots of meds, and wined in Europe, Asia and America- also stressed about family matters. It’s sad to have to struggle with this condition at late age, but hey, like the wise people say, one day at a time!! Blessings and try to enjoy every minute we’re alive.
While it may be a little embarrassing especially farting, it is far more concerning if you didnt. I recently had major emergency surgery due to a twisted blocked intestine. The build up of gas caused my tum to be enormous and the pain was awful. I was constipated I thought initially lI had not passed wind for a week. I was discharged today and thanked the surgeon for saving my life. Passing wind is normal. It may be worth reducing any foods that contain fibre for a few days. Gradually re introduce them into your diet. You should find the culprit.
