Feeling shattered

My son in law is in Pakistan doing an art installation at a mosque at the moment. So in a moment of madness I asked my daughter and her two boys to come for sunday lunch. My son then said his girlfriend was away for the weekend so I asked if he'd like to come too. My youngest daughter had been in France with work all week and her partner was away at her parents house so I asked her if she'd like to come ( can't invite 2 children and leave out the 3rd) She then messaged me to say her partner was back early so was it ok for her to come too. So I'd gone from cooking for 3 adults and 2 kids to cooking for 6 adults and 2 kids 😡😡😡 we live in a small bungalow so it was pretty snug but everyone enjoyed it. My grandson said grandma makes the best gravy, it's just too good. I'm fit for nothing now but it was lovely to have most of the family here. I'd made roast potatoes, roasted parsnips, roasted carrots, broccoli cheese, a turkey crown, pigs in blankets, pork and chestnut stuffing, new potatoes and my daughter asked where the Yorkshire puddings were!!!

Hi Debs

That sounds fantastic and, as the saying goes, well done you πŸ˜πŸ‘

It really must have been great to have all (?) your family round. Food sounds yummy as well πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘.

Next time can I come, please 😁

Usually my son in law and my son's girlfriend would join us. Plus my mum and stepdad, sister and niece but I dodged that one πŸ˜‚ I don't mind having everyone round during the summer as we can all sit outside but I can't seat everyone in our little house. Hope you're well PM, there seems to be fewer of the regulars on here recently. Was it something we said? Deb

I know you are shattered but I bet it's worth it having your family round. I love it when we all get together, I've got no grandchildren as yet but I can't wait though my eldest son said we will have to put up with cats!!! My youngest said he doesn't want any but he's brilliant with children, they always attach themselves to him so he might surprise us!!! Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Now Debs. What can I say?! Having been born in Yorkshire and always loving my yorky puds with roast dinner (even Christmas day!). Wasn't there a small corner of your oven that you could have squeezed that batter mixture in? I hope that your poor daughter managed to enjoy her meal without, lol. Very impressed with all the rest on the menu. Next time squeeze me in along with Pilom. Alf

Such a lovely post. Like my family, always want the Yorkshire pudding no matter the occasion. Pigs in blankets and not even Christmas you have a very lucky family to enjoy such a feast. I did the family lunch yesterday too, I love feeling shattered from the love of my family, better than being shattered from pbc. It melts your heart when the grandchildren make a comment about your food being the best. Precious moments for sure.

Hi Deb,

It sounds as if you had a wonderful time.

Having the kids and theirs over can be exhausting, but wonderful, so glad to hear you had a good time.

Oh yummy yum yum, me too for Christmas please or any sunday for that matterπŸ˜„πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ƒif there is no room at the table i,ll sit on the floor!. I was watching a youtube video last night about the sayings people or their kinfolk have engraved on their tombstones, some were really funny ( wouldn,t be allowed here!) reflecting the charactor of the occupant, there were the old chestnuts such as " see, I told you I was ill " and "Here lies an athiest, all dressed up with nowhere to go!" One of my favourates which had me in stitches was " under this sod lies another" and "Well, this sucks! ". πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Anyway , the reason I mention this is there was a large section devoted to mums and Grandmas with their favourite recipes engraved on the back of the stones such as " Grandma,s Christmas cookies," Or, " Auntie Nells chocolate and cherry surprise cake". I thought it was a lovely idea and really felt like i knew aunt Nelly a little as I copied down her cake recipe with a smile on my face. I would have loved that special connection with my mother or grandmother that food gives. Wow, to have had a family recipe book, it would have been better than a diary!. Gran passed when I was young, and we lived on processed TV dinners as both parents were needed in the family business. Anyway, I digress, this magical graveyard was in the States somewhere in the south, and I wrote down some lovely good old southern soulfood family recipes to try out. Oh Yummiest ,yum, of yums....πŸ˜ƒ p.s fatty liver here I come....do dah, do dah! x x
