Alfapump.

Me again! Just been reading about using Alfapumps to treat refractory ascites. Has anyone experience of this?

This might be something the transplant team would consider to keep your husbands condition under some sort of control as transplant is awaited. They might also consider a procedure called TIPSS (Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt) to reduce ascites but it in itself can cause a worsening of Hepatic Encephalopathy.

This is why referral to the transplant unit is of the utmost importance and urgency, they have the expertise to manage these other therapies which t/p is awaited.

Do make sure referral has been done - as your husband has been alcohol free for 7 months that should not delay things.
