I’ve been loosing weight so much when I see family they ask if I’m ok. They say I look so sick. I’ve went from 200 lbs to 145 in 2 yrs without even being on a diet. What can I do to not look so sick?

Hi Teri. If you are well enough, check with your doc first, I'd suggest going to the gym, have a programme done to suit your age, weight and ability. By starting with light weights and some aerobic work you can really tone up your body, gain strength and muscle definition which will definately make you look healthy. It will make you feel great to as you will gain confidence. But I stress you must get your doc to ok it with you first. Good luck

Reading back some of your earlier posts you not only have a long standing liver condition in your PBC but also other stomach issues plus bowel issues and celiac disease all of which will be robbing your system of the necessary calories, vitamins, minerals and more which keep your weight up, your body fuelled and your general health in good order.

I know you are in the USA with insurance issues and all that sort of thing but would it be possible for you to see a really good dietician? .... Over here in UK our transplant teams have liver specialist dieticians. You need to be on an appropriate diet to suit all your various conditions whilst still providing the correct intake to fuel you and keep your weight up.

Try and see a specialist dietician for proper advice as yours is a pretty unique situation with regards to your mix of conditions.

All the best, Katie

Hi Teri

I'm no dietician however my husband lost over 5 stone when ill. Following advice from his dietician it's about a very high protein diet. More than the next person needs. Your body uses protein to try and repair so you need to double what you'd need if you were well. Eggs and beans are good. Or supplement with protein shakes if you can afford to. Good luck x
