Has anyone ever experienced bloody taste as an early sign of varices bleeding?

Early Signs of Varices
My husband says he never had anything like this - the first sign he had anything going on was he was passing blood from his rear for some time (which he ignored) and this was prior to his vomitting blood - we never even knew he was poorly at all until the massive upper GI bleed.
A metallic taste in the mouth is however very common in liver disease and I wonder if this is what you are tasting.
If you are unsure you should get it checked out, also check your stool colour (black and tarry or even fresh blood then go to hospital).

No inclination at all I just went to the bathroom and passed it and I also just threw blood up.... Usually a taste of blood is linked to iron you should see your GP he will do a blood test to check your iron levels
My liver doc said the blood vessels are too low down for you to taste it. Like others said, I only found out when I vomited up blood. Then all hell broke loose at the hospital and my blood pressure was so low that they couldn’t stabilise me. I needed 9 blood transfusions before they could operate. The docs said they almost lost me twice. But haha to them! I am still ticking along..

Brett
As others have commented above, first signs have been tarry stools. Luckily I didn't vomit blood until they sprayed the sedative spray before the endoscopy.
