Cholesterol meds

My liver blood tests normally are fine. I drink rarely, although I used to drink heavily but never had abnormal tests nor did I drink to the point of physical addiction such as having DTs when I stopped, etc.

I have high cho,sterol, familial, and am on a cholesterol drug. This messes with my liver tests and so I am on a twice weekly cholesterol med regimen, with the doctor saying that " slightly elevated liver enzymes" are not a concern - compared to the risk of high cholesterol.

I shared my concerns with him about the formerly heavy drinking and wondering how I'd know if my tests were elevated due to true and significant liver damage ( which was caused from past drinking) or the cholesterol meds.

I've read that normal liver tests don't necessarily mean that cirrhosis isn't present- just that the damage hasn't yet affected the liver enough to show in a blood test.

I am so confused!

Ask your doctor for a GGT, that is a more indicator if something is wrong.
