...have tried researching online but information overload which has worried me
Hi everybody- I need advice about how ... - British Liver Trust
Hi everybody- I need advice about how to find out about completely alcohol-free products as I am starting Antabuse tonight. Thanks :)
Hi Suzee, It took me a while after I stopped drinking to find something I was a) comfortable with and b) enjoyed when I was in a pub or restaurant. I eventually settled for sparkling water - it doesn't sound exciting, I know, but it gives you a glass to hold if nothing else. I suppose I worried about the reaction of others but apart from the occasional "Don't you drink?", it is not interesting and nobody has ever tried to persuade me to have an alcoholic drink. I hope you find it as easy as I did.
Mike
Depends what Products you are looking for.
If it is drinks, then there are lots of them out there.
Most stockists of alcohol products, also stock a range of non alchoholic drinks Lager, Beer, wine, etc.
Non alcoholc drinks are for non alcoholics. Even they have trace amount of alcohol in them. I realise it is difficult but it is doable to live without alcohol. Drinks with sugar in them are best to start with as your body will be craving the sugar that is in the alcohol and your brain will tell you that one won't hurt. AA is a good place to go for support try a few different meetings it does work. I'm 7 years sober now and doctors didn't think I'd live a year. Good luck.
don't bother with the none alcohol drinks as they still contain alcohol so does most of mouthwash- tomatoes just do they same as I do read the labels of everything you want no traces of alcohol at all its a good thing and you can live and enjoy yourself without alcohol good luck
I never drink alcohol, never have since the day I was diagnosed with Scleroderma, and previously to that I was a very light drinker. Maybe one spirits drink a week at the most, never beer and no wine since about 1977. All the same I have recently been diagnosed with Cirrhosis because of PBC. So you don't need to feel shy about saying you don't drink, if you appear firm and confident you can put up with any comments and slowly they will disappear. We go to the Pub every Wednesday night for a meal and night out with a group of friends. Actually none of us drinks much maybe one beer or glass of wine even the Publican knows that and if he doesn't like it he can lump it. We buy food and coffee (decaf for me) and soft drinks most of the night. My choice is usually Lemon, Lime and Bitters, and if you are fussy about looking like you have a real drink that one is a good one because it looks like a Gin and Tonic.
Good morning all thanks for all your positive replies-think I will stick to sparkling water. Am now a bit concerned about detergents, make-up etc so had a brainwave (I think) during the night-I may just halve my daily tablet to avoid reactions to them.
Wishing you all a positive peaceful day. Suzee.
hi Suzee, at the britisk livertrust road shows earlier this year they were giving samples of alcohol free wine which was surprisingly drinkable and alcohol free-as a wine drinker myself I thought a decent alternative-can't remember the name but Morrisons stock it
Hi Briccolone,
I think you are referring to Eisberg non-alcholic wine
Eisberg were a sponsor of the BLT Roadshows
They advertise their wine as non-alcoholic because they remove the alcohol from it at the end of the wine making process but I do not know whether the removal is truly 100% or whether there is a still a trace of alcohol left after the removal process

I'm a light drinker, as is my daughter, and would suggest you try Schloer's red grape juice or Appletiser if you want to appear to have a drink at home. I think you can get appletiser in quite a few pubs, if not try J20.
As my sister is an alcoholic I know that you have to be careful of alcohol in other products. I think she said she doesn't use nail varnish now and had problems with some sauces but we haven't talked about it recently.. You'll need to read labels carefully.
I bought perfume & makeup from an islamic internet site as there were no alcohol in most of their products. It is doable but you really have to look hard for the stuff on the internet. I also drink Britvic 55, they do it in apple, raspberry & orange flavour, they're fizzy drinks & my favourite is the orange one. Most pubs/restaurants sell them so do the supermarkets if you want to drink some at home. I had a liver transplant last year because of my previous drinking, I haven't drank for just under 5 years now but I don't use anything that has alcohol in it. It is possible if you are prepared to search for these items.
