need advice

I'm due my operation soon I don't even know there were different aneurism I don't know what to expect can't talk to my kids I'm kinda scared as don't know other than there capping it and cutting me ear to ear my brain won't stop thinking what will happen please any answers will be so helpful

Tracy, I feel for you as I was very anxious as well. I had my aneurysm sorted in November 2018. It was 6.5mm and as it was below the 7mm ‘guide’ I was given the option of monitoring it over the next few years or having the op. After a lot of soul searching I decided to have the op. Not sure where you live but I had mine done at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh and the staff were fantastic. Because it is a University hospital, they get the new tech and I was given a Woven Endobridge (WEB) device. google will tell you all about it, coiling is similar. Yours sounds a bit more severe. I went into the hospital the night before, well looked after and reassured, then done the next morning. I got a general anaesthetic and was out for about 2.5 hours. I was in intensive care for 24 hrs after and allowed to go home which was great. It took me about 10 weeks to feel about 95% again. Fortunately I am retired so I did not have to worry about work, which was good as I think there would have been pressure to return too early. All in all it was one of the best decisions I have made in my life and I can move on in life without having to worry about a ‘time-bomb’ in my head. I have had my three month scan and they are very happy with the results and I will be monitored over the next four years. Yes there are risks with any op but I was encouraged that my hospital did 500 successful ops per year and that mines was straight forward. There was a woman in my ward who had had obvious surgery to her head but like me she was up walking about the next day and talking and joking with everyone.

The advice I got before my op was to speak to my GP, be encouraged by success stories on these forums and even talk to your consultant. You did not say the age of your children but they will notice that you will be different after the op. I did not have any outward signs that I had been in hospital like a bandage or whatever, but my obvious signs were walking very slowly and being very tired, so even glossing over the fine detail, it might be good to tell them you are having a ‘proccedure’. If you do work, they will also notice you are not there. It was explained to me that they had ‘rearranged the plumbing in my head, so the brain was wondering what had happened so it was taking time to readjust’. This made a lot of sense to me and helped my understand why I was not as active as I normally had been.

I watched the op on u tube lol but I can’t now it makes me cringe x

Mine were clipped one one week n two weeks later the other side so I’m scared from one ear to other, I recovered very well I was in hdu overnight with both n home after first one a week later but second one 4 days later I’d rather have the clipping than coils as u can get taken back in agsin n agsin for more coils putting in x

The capping is clipping like I had which is a clip that goes over the bottom of anyeursm to stop the blood flow going into it to stop it rupturing n they kniw before they close u back up that it’s successful, where as the coils they can move n cause u to need more putting in n monitoring over years, clipping u don’t need to keep going back to be checked x

That's why my surgeon in Leeds prefers them I watched a op of both procedures I'm happy with clip version my minds at rest now well as much can be I'm really grateful for help on this sires given me I've learned so much now thank you

Had my op on 28/01/2019 had 1 aneurysm coiled, spent a week in hospital, had to walk with a stick for a week or 2. Couldn't get out of bath without help. Now 10 weeks on unless you had known what has gone on nobody would know what has happened I appear to be back to normal. Just extremely worn out all the time and rather forgetful. If you need the op then just be thankful that the team know what they are doing and you can make a good recovery but it takes time and patience. Just so you know I also have a second aneurysm which I presume will need operating on. Hope you are ok.

I am good I'm tired now aall time but I think that recovering from stroke I can't wait for op now had great feedback read loads so fingers crossed not long I hope you feel so much better soon x
