Do you mean osteonecrosis? If so, I just looked it up and it sounds nasty. Do you have it, and how does it affect you?
I'm not sure, the orthopaedic said it's a possibility and I'm waiting for more tests
Yes, the oral surgeon has said I do have Osteonecrosis, and Prolia is the likely cause. Dead tissue has been dug out of the tooth extracted are twice. My body seems to reject bone graphs, so I no longer have any. My body is trying to heal itself. Healing is progressing slowly. I am hopeful that with continuing oral rinse on the area twice a day, and good oral hygiene I can beat this. Meanwhile no hip surgery seems unsafe, and an exit plan moving forward after stopping Prolia is complicated because many of the alternative drugs they usually switch to also causes Osteonecrosis so they are not appropriate in my case. We are still trying to figure out a long term plan. Taking Prolia has been a life changing mistake. I fear most exercise now for fear of fractures. DON'T TAKE IT!
I'm sorry to hear your having such a bad time, hope things improve soon. If you don't mind me asking what is prolia? I have been told I don't have Osteonecrosis, thankfully. My problem is I broke my hip and have a screw put in and the bones collapsing round about it. Will likely need a hip replacement soon.
Ok, here is the quick version based on my gathering of information and personal involvement:
Prolia is an Osteoporosis medication given by an injection every 6 months. It works off the immune system and the generic name is Denosumab. It is involved in bone remodeling and bone resorption rate. It works differently from the Bisphosphonates (like Boniva) , but both drugs list Osteonecrosis of the jaw as a side effect. Getting off of Prolia is proving complicated: increased risk of fractures, and a rebound effect, being my bone density, Vit D and Calcium reads could decline rapidly and be worse than when I began. I am fearful of hip replacement while suffering these effects so I have postponed. Meanwhile, I am limping and activities are compromised.
Is teriparatide a possibility as a bridging medication when you discontinue prolia?
Hi Mags72. Do you think you have this?
It is a nasty condition and can be associated with OP medication, BUT there’s also a connection between bone loss due to OP and tooth loss. See the following

Hiya thanks for replying, tbh I'm not sure what's going on with my pain whether it's nerve damage or bone related? What is OP?
Hi Mags,
OP is Osteoporosis. This is a community for those who have osteoporosis or osteopenia.
Osteoporosis is a medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue, typically as a result of hormonal changes, or deficiency of calcium or vitamin D. It can also happen as a result of taking certain medications for a very long time.
Hi Mags. OP is the abbreviation for osteoporosis. I assumed you have this with visiting this forum.
Sorry but I have only just read your other posting, with reference to your broken hip.
Have you had a DEXA scan done to check your bone density for osteoporosis? If not request one. Also get your vit D blood level checked. In the U.K. some GP’s are very laxed about requesting these tests.
Best wishes
Here in US, my doctor has calcium and D checked before each Prolia injection.
Hi Jayge
I’ve never had Prolia so I’m not familiar with the routine. How long have you been on it? Would you recommend it?
I’m still undecided what to go for now that my Strontium Ranelate is almost finished.
Best wishes
I get my fourth in January. Make sure you will not need implants or extractions. That is my big concern as i tend to need implants. Husband had about so five next due December for next. He has had no reactions.
A woman in
My exercise class is also on Prolia and doing okay.
I do not believe you can exercise and cure osteoporosis. I have been physically active and kept slender all my life yet my hip neck was not great.
My spine fairly good.
Prolia can improve your numbers as mine improved 8 percent.
Other drugs beside Prolia run dental risks. If you are not too bad though you might still be able to build bone.
Bone building is best done by using weights and walking I read,
Hard decision.
Or do you mean Osteonecrosis ?
