I took AA from 2007 until 2012 and it worked for me. After 5 years my scores were within normal range and it was discontinued. I continue to monitor my bone density with scans every three years. I was fortunate in not having any major side effects from this drug.

I also have severe RA which I have had for over 40 years and am not very mobile. I had HRT for a number of years until 2006 when I developed breast cancer. It was suggested to me as being protective of my bones as I have taken steroids on a long term basis. So it didn’t work in my case to prevent osteopenia and may have contributed to my breast cancer. Who knows?

All these powerful drugs have side effects and one needs to take advice and do your own research before making a decision. Wishing you the best of luck.

Hi pam thanks for the reply I take your point I think I've read too many things on the AA maybe, I did lift a heavy bag but I do that frequently with no problem normally but I also have arthritis soo maybe it was coincidence, I was expecting indigestion heartburn as I suffer from that but it's controlled by lansaprazol I'll have to see if it happens this week if so I'll see GP and hopefully get some answers compared to you I'm lucky I think I wish you all the best pam and your scores are really encouraging thank you so much

Have you considered ways to improve gut health? I have found kefir and yoghurt very good for healing the gut as well as going gluten free. It might help bones heal too if gut function is good as you can absorp more nutrients.

I made the mistake of taking a second Alendronic pill & suffered further and the effects stayed in my body for 10 months. HRT was not on offer for me, I think because of my age of being over 60.

Hi rosepetal you've just said what I was thinking take one next week see how I am but now I'm not so sure so difficult don't want to risk fractures but also this stuff seems awful. Thanks for your reply take care will keep you updated x

The one drug I took the longest. Think about 3 years was Relaxofin (sp) by Evista. And that did help my score. But over time the side effects got really bad so had to stop taking them.

Hi rosepetal I thought I'd heard that was no longer available I'm speaking to a friend tonight and she was an intensive care nurse still heavily in NHS and she has had PMR for around three years I will ask her what she's on and see what she thinks enjoy the rest of the bank holiday x

Hi Lolly64

I live in Sydney. I have Osteoperosis in my spine -3.7. My specialist asked me to take Livial HRT - half a tablet. I am 61. I am reluctant but that’s what my specialist thinks I should take. So am taking it albeit apprehensively
