Hi. I had a fall in October and now it seems as though I have OP. I fractured a vertebrae (L2) I have had pain quite bad at times I manage with over the counter pain relief. I am 62 nearly 63 and I have concerns about long term wellness and work. Otherwise I am OK I am waiting for a bone density scan next month. I have physio so I can't complain ...

Hi Chinasue, after the dexa scan, you will probably be put onto Alendronic Acid and prescribed the calcium/Vit D tablets by your GP. If you feel you have enough calcium daily in your diet you can discuss this with your gp and only be prescribed the Vit D tablets. AA is usually what the gp prescribes in the first instance as I presume that is what they have been instructed to dish out. Unfortunately not many GPs know much, if anything about OP. A call to the NOS helplines is a good idea if you feel you are not getting the help you should be having after being diagnosed with OP. The nurses are really great and I have heard many benefit from calling them.

I have joined a local OP group fairly near me and it is great to meet with others once a month who are in the same boat and also listen to some very interesting talks on the subject too.

It is good you are seeing a physio whom, I presume has good knowledge of osteoporosis so knows what you should and should not be doing regarding exercises.

Thanks for your reply I will keep you posted

Gosh you are great to manage with otc medicines. I had a dexa scan and have been put on AA So far no great side effects, I opted for this rather than Prolia as it doesnt affect the kidneys as much, I am supposed to eat more calcium as in yogurt and walk. My Rheumatologist also told me to wear shoes with support and throw out my favourites that are worn,

I had my Bone scan last week I am still OK with painkillers. At the moment I am coping well. However I am scared that it will get worse and interfere with my plans to travel. I am wearing more sensible shoes (ugh!) and eating well also cut done on my wine intake (that's hard). I have 2 dogs so I walk. I am still waiting to see my consultant and have not had any further results except to be told it is OP

Hi

I take IBANDRONIC ACID.only once a month. Which is brilliant. But I have to take Calceos twice a day which is a pain because it interacts with lots of things including tea. So I have only to drink water 2hours before and after taking it. This is because it absorption is affected.
