Healthy diet for a COPD sufferer?

Any advice on a 'good' diet for my husband who has COPD and is on oxygen 24/7. He also takes warfarin which means he should not eat certain things. I have been told a non dairy diet would be helpful. I am a vegetarian but my husband is not.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Jean,

Have COPD and am not on oxygen, generally not too bad. It was suggested by the Pulmonary Rehab. Physio that I increase my I take of protein as a help to my condition.

It apparently helps me manage my energy better.

Metabolising energy from carbohydrate requires quite a lot of energy, although we do need some as I know that the brain can only function on energy from carbohydrate. I did quite a lot of research on high protein foods and it seems that one of the highest content is in dried skimmed milk. I am a vegetarian too.

If you are in touch with the Respiratory team perhaps ask them for some advice or use BLF helpline?

Good luck and enjoy the weekend.

Thanks for your message. When you are on warfarin there are certain foods that you should not eat.

Not sure if he would like dried skimmed milk but I hoping that he will go back to soya milk.

Best wishes Jean
