Hi Meg, I have never heard of Seretide being used to stop a cough. If you are using it more often than is prescribed and your GP is saying this is causing a faster heartbeat surely NOT using it too often will "calm it down" better than anything else?

Surely Seretide is a preventer not a reliever and as such should not be used indiscriminately. I think I would ask your doctor again and if you are not happy speak to your pharmacist to clarify usage. Good luck in trying to stop your coughing

Yes I agree Meg, using extra doses of Seretide is unlikely to reduce your coughing. If you have a chest infection it needs to be treated properly. And perhaps best chat to your GP again if the cough does not subside in a few days.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Meg using extra Seretide could be doing you more harm than good, I understood you should only have 2 puffs a day, please check with your respiratory nurse.

Ask your doctor for ventolin. That will work, works for me. Never take extra seratide. That is a preventer and will do nothing for your cough.

Actually, seretide is a combi drug, both long term preventer and reliever, but still wise to stick with prescribed dosage - for me that is 2 puffs twice a day.

Using a separate reliever and preventer works for me allowing a tailor made management of my Asthma a combined inhaler did not work and gave more problems.

Consider discussing a change of inhalers with doc /nurse asap.

Thank you every one for ur help

I, too, am on Seretide 250 and a few weeks ago developed an additional annoying and persistent dry cough. Somewhere - possibly here - I read that dyhydration can have this effect - so I stepped up the water intake and had a mild cough mixture from my chemist 'relief for unproductive coughs'). Things have improved, thanks, I suspect, to the extra water intake. It's so easy to forget to keep well-hydrated.

I am on seretide 500 but have been told not to take more than prescribed dose. When I was on the separate Flixotide and serevent (the 2 = seretide) I could take more serevent but not the flixotide.I too suggest that you clarify your dosage with your GP.I also find my pharmacist a fount of knowledge and much more accessible than a doc.Good luck

I like Hecter am on seretide 500 and have one puff twice daily. Not a good idea to take it to try to stop the cough. You could try steam inhalation to help that wich is irritating, drink plenty of water, also you could gargle, especially before bed, try sleeping with your head raised? Don't take extra seretide as it contains steroids, all the inhalers can raise your heartbeat, they work on your central nervous system so not surprising perhaps!! DON'T worry that will make it worse! Kindest thoughts Kate

Hi Gymskool, yes I've heard that too, but very unhelpful advice when you are worn out with a hacking cough! Any sort of relief is a bonus, so hopefully she can take some of the advice on here, it may help, regards to you! Kate

My view is that with a lung problem you cough anyway, but with an infection it's bad for COPD, and I think you strain everything as you're constantly coughing. As a general rule, it must be so, but wouldn't have thought so with the existing condition? Don't want to upset anyone, but I do think this lady should go to a COPD nurse/doctor, we know she has been checked out, but he should have known she was doing wrong! Nice to talk to you! Kate
