I tried to get colleagues to sign up during National Transplant week - I think they thought I was rather selfishly asking for myself!!

I have been on the donor list for years - i have always thought it should be automatic unless you opt OUT.

So many peoples lives could be improved by a transplant and i think a lot of people who die unexpectedly ( accidents) may have wanted to be organ donors but had not made their thoughts known as, in this country, death is not discussed.

i think it is very difficult for relatives to make the decision at such a tragic time and if they did know and they are against transplant themselves they may not make the decision the donor wanted.

I would like to say that although i am on the national donor list i have made it clear they can take anything they like but not my eyes ( got a thing about that!!!!)

Like you I've been on the register for years and they can have what if anything is any use to them when I'm gone. The one thing I have heard though, which I think is very wrong, is that even if you have put yourself on the register when the time comes, your next of kin could veto it. Don't know if that's true or not.

i believe its down to consent and the next of kin have to agree to it .

Someone on here who has medical knowledge might be able to put me right but i believe its all about the wishes of the next of kin despite the donors wishes.

its such a shame.

Yes, at the moment, next of kin have to agree, so it is important to tell them.
