Sounds like he needs steroids and antibiotics - he may not want to go back to the GP but neither did my husband . His phlegm issue cleared up quickly with prednisone and antibiotics as he had a deep seated infection that wouldn't move just using normal asthma drug treatment .

Please get him back to the doctors. Sounds like he needs steroids to get the inflammation down. Inflamed tissue produces more mucus.

I know how terrifying this feeling is, sometimes I just can’t get my breath and feel like I’m drowning. Steam inhalation helps me when it’s really bad

I found that when not having an infection but so overloaded with phlegm the only thing that helped was taking antihistamine for a day to help dry everything up and give me a little relief. Best to check this out with the gp first just to make sure there is no infection x

I was having similar issues, I’d been told in 2018 I had chronic inflammation of the sinuses caused by my inflammatory arthritis which also affects the jaw muscle. I was on long term steroid nasal spray, which I stopped earlier this year. When I did stop I suddenly started coughing up copious amounts of phlegm. Didn’t initially connect the two. However since restarting Monetasone nasal spray it has settled down. Could it be post nasal drip? An antihistamine may help if it’s allergy related

Hi try the doctor,I had thisproblem but antibiotics is not always the answer.Iwas given Carbocisteine capsules which I take on a regular basis, they soften the phlegm and it comes up mch easier and in my case reduced the coughing

I had the same so I started taking two tablespoons of honey morning and before I go to sleep, it stopped and when there is anything in my throat it comes up easy. I feel sorry for him I used to go dizzy trying to get it up but now have good nights sleep and no trouble through the day. good luck PS the honey is an antibiotic

I have a nebuliser and use saline in it up to 4 times a day. It loosens my phlegm

Thanks everyone took hubby to the doctor who listened to his chest and said your chest doesn't sound too bad but j can hear your breathless so gave him 7 days worth of antibiotics and 5days of steroids, then went on to say have you both had the conversation and would you go in to hospital if you got really poorly, we both looked at him in a shocked expression as does he know something we dont , anyway fingers crossed these all work.

I'm glad your husband has seen the doctor at last and got some antibiotics- hope they work. When I was coughing up vast amounts of phlegm, I found my AeroBika helped a lot. Doctors can prescribe these little gadgets.

I know what he means about being fed up,but I do think he needs a phone call at least. Drinking water helps me .I take a bottle of water to bed as it avoids spillage.

I use an acapella,it’s green, you blow into it,it loosens the mucus,so it’s easier to cough up.

The respiratory physio supplied mine.

Before a I got a diagnosis,I used to buy the chestycough medicine to help me feel a bit better.

I used to buy the cheap one from the pound shop, not the expensive ones. The hope your husband gets sorted.
