Has anyone used CBD for lung connected pain? And, if so, was it effective?

Not used for lung pain, but used it for inflammatory pain from autoimmune issues, and there’s a whole bunch of people on the various forums I belong to that have used it for all sorts of different pain purposes. I’d say only 10% of those that reply/post have ever seen any benefit, and mostly in their sleep and anxiety levels rather than any impact on pain. The formal studies are increasingly suggesting that for systemic pain relief, you do need the other psychoactive ingredients found in cannabis like THC, and the drugs licensed for pain relief, or found to have a reduction in pain as a side effect like Sativex for MS, all contain other cannabinoids. Those that report pain relief using CBD most often tend to be suffering with musculoskeletal pain, rather than systemic pain: CBD has muscle relaxant properties, so the working theory is that it reduces MSK pain that way.

I’m in no way anti-CBD, but it can negatively effect prescription medications, so you do need to seek medical advice if it’s something you want to try. My GP was very much no reason you can’t, but I can’t recommend you try it as it’s not scientifically proven, which is no different to any supplement you ask them about. I took it for a month, and beyond not finding any relief, I also found I just didn’t get on with it generally. You need to have a size and purpose appropriate dose if you want to really see if it helps, so proper research is required to establish how much that is. If you read into it properly, it tends to be quite an expensive endeavour at pain management levels - they say you have to build up to a level and maintain it to be effective, so it’s something that needs to be taken regularly rather than odd doses here and there. There’s also a widespread recommendation you need to then take it for at least a few days before determining if it’s working or not. Many sites offering advice say you really need to allow a month.

Sorry for the late reply. I’m in hospital at the moment. In my case, it would be for MSK pain. My consultant and various doctors here are not at all against me trying it. I would be hoping to replace some or all of the oxynorm I take with it. I do have the right pharmaceutical prescription for my weight, age, condition etc. - I will also fully check contra indications. Obviously, it was sent from a place where it’s legal. I have no real expectations one way or the other. But I do know that oxycodone is the worst. Comes with too many extra problems of its own. Doesn’t last either. Thanks for your reply. Really helpful.

I can't answer in relation to lung related pain but my husband considered it for chronic back pain before discovering that it was contra-indicated with some of his prescription medication so please check with your GP before trying it if you do decide to.

Sorry for the late reply. My hospital consultant is aware that this is something I will be doing. I don’t think he would be happy to go ahead if it wasn’t safe. I will check everything I take tho. Thanks.
