Evidence has shown masks likely do reduce the spread of COVID-19, so wearing them is a good thing—particularly as Victoria continues to grapple with a second wave.
But one conversation we're not having enough is around how to safely dispose of single-use masks. Disposing of used masks or gloves incorrectly could risk spreading the infection they're designed to protect against.
While reusable cloth masks are an option if you've been able to buy one or even make one yourself, disposable, single-use surgical masks appear to be a popular choice. They provide protection and they're cheap and convenient.
I found the article interesting and easy to read. I'm reassured to know that I am doing the right thing regarding masks. We need to get the message across to those who aren't, though.
A friend sent me a picture of a shop sign. It read, 'If you come into the store without a mask we'll have to take your temperature. We only have rectal thermometers. Choose wisely!'
It gave me a laugh but it also got the point across!

I think an important message with this is "Do not to touch discarded gloves or masks" if some dirty reprobate has discarded theirs in a trolley, then choose another trolley. We all need to still be ultra careful, should we go out into public spaces and for a long time to come.
On my walk around near where I live I've come across discarded masks lying on the ground- first instinct is to pick it up and put in the bin then sense floods your mind and NO leave it it might be contaminated especially as I'm not wearing gloves or have a bag with me. We need adverts on tv and hoardings to tell people how to discard them safely. I'm still amazed at how many people have them under the chin after coming out of shops and buses. x
I agree with you 100%. A campaign of public awareness is needed. So what is the Public Service Broadcaster, the BBC, going to do about this? They are quick enough to grab money from the pensioners. Now it is time for the BBC show their worth, step up and provide the service they are charged to provide by their Royal Charter!
My friend took me to Sainsburys/M &S yesterday in Ashton and the car park had quite a few discarded masks on the floor. It seems that the litter louts are everywhere. It beggars belief that they just dont care enough to put them in the bin or in their pockets until they get home. Britain now must be the dirty man of Europe and just dont know how to behave. I feel so ashamed of my country when I looked at the mess left on the beaches in the last heatwave, but it is everywhere. Perhaps we need this advertised more on the tv as it was when we were younger and wardens making fines x
