Hello

I have just got off the phone with respiratory medicine where I am on the waiting list , I asked how long it would be before I got my appointment, I asked is it weeks or months, the person could not say, my question is, I am getting pressure from work to return, my GP said because of my breathing difficulty's I can not return, can I ask my GP to put shielding on my sick not, to get OH off my back?

Thanks in advance

Frank

Your GP said because of your breathing difficulty's you can not return to work.

There is your sick note.

But you will have to ask for one in writing from your doctor for your employer's records.

Sure you can ask if he will put on it you are shielding but really a sick note saying you must not return to work because of your health is all you need your doctor will give the reason.

Take good care

You will need to keep a copy of every sick note from your GP and test results, if you are dealing with oh aka atos.

Hi

My problem is my GP does not know if I have COPD without my seeing respiratory medicine , I am taking erdotin which do help me but I still struggle to take a breath. I send my sicks to my manager.

So you cannot say you have COPD if you do not have a diagnoses, you just say the facts, your doctor will write the facts. You are having breathing difficulties as yet cause unknown because tests are delayed due to the pandemic.

As above you will need to keep a copy of your sick notes from your doctor that you send to your Manager.

I read somewhere that your shielding letter replaces a sick note.

Hi

I haven't got a shielding letter

Ah ok then I would second what Bkin has suggested. Although a GP did write a sick note for a colleague aged 74 “Advised to shield re COVID-19 “ she doesn’t have any condition but is anxious and wanted to shield.

Not if signed off work sick. The shielding letter means don’t have to be signed off by gp as well. It is meant to save lots of people who work going to get unnecessary sick note. Also shielding means that where possible people can/should work but from home.

It is only if can’t work from home and shielding you will get paid (80%?) of pay.

Yes. She got one month sick note then work said she didn’t need to send another , after 1 week as it was then lockdown where shielding advised to many plus over 70s.

You also get a shielding letter if fully retired- it’s advice and help to save your life.

Yes am aware that those retired received shielding letters.

Post was specifically about working so hence my response.

Agree with Bevvy

One of the 3 shielding letters I received indicated it was a sick note to be shown to my employers.

Best of luck ,do hope you get sorted soon
