I got slightly out of breath just cleaning the shower and I let it get me down. I am on 45mg of mertazapine for depression. My cardio nurse discharged me yesterday so I should take comfort from that which I do but the little bit of breathless gets to me

Hi Paul, I understand you being anxious about your breathlessness. I have been breathless from childhood due to bronchiectasis. I was told not to let it stop me getting on with my life. I studied , worked and do a lot of walking in the countryside. Plus tai chi and Zumba. Yes I still get breathless but it is important to keep as fit as possible otherwise you lose what fitness you have. There are limits to how much exercise you can do and you must know your own limits but exercise makes me feel so much brighter mentally Best wishes Marlene
Hello Paul..I know where your coming from. I am also on Depression meds, its all thru the family! I used to wallpaper ceilings..clean the house from front to back, wash and paint the vehicles..take care of my kids and work on top of that! I thank God..I am hyperactive! About you scrubbing out your shower....I now hire the neighbor kid to clean my bathtub! Carry groceries in..put this/that downstairs...the old grey haired mare...ain't what she use to be. the more I beat myself up for it..the more miserable I feel! I just have to accept it and pat myself on the back for what I still can do! Try it! Janet127
My dear Janet, You are describing how many of us on here deal with basic everyday living. There are so many little jobs I cannot do any longer and it makes me frustrated at times. One pet hate is changing the bed. I wish they would make duvet covers with a zip all round. I think it would be so much easier to just lay the open duvet on the bed open, place the duvet on top and then zip up. I have to wait for my daughter to do it usually but like you, I have to rely on others to do very simple jobs now. Nice to share a moan. Take care. Chrys
Here's a tip, I use a kingsize double sheet to go between me and the duvet. The sheet & pillowcases I wash often and change the duvet every couple of months. Works for me. I'd rather spend my energy on nice exercise like walking the dog!
When my husband was alive and we shared a bed I tried that.... a sheet followed by the duvet. As he moved around a lot the sheet used to get in a tangle and in the end I stopped using one. However, I sleep alone now and I think Ill give your suggestion a try. If I dont try it Ill never know if it will work. So, thanks for the tip. Chrys
I will give that a try with smaller sheets. It takes me an hour plus to change our two single beds. Last week I put my husbands quilt in the cover sideways. He struggled to sort it out . We have a granddaughter (12) today and she has agreed to do some little jobs we struggle with. Will give her some spending money as a thank you.
Maybe ask someone to make you a couple with zips? Buy material online? Its a good idea! 😂

Yes, I think theres an opening for someone enterprising! I fear it wont be me who could benefit at this time of my life though. One can only hope that someone out there could take a chance nd go for it. They could try contacting Alan Sugar and The Apprentice. Who knows?
Hi Paul I found myself thinking about what you said and I wonder if you were bending over to clean the shower? Lately I find that bending over makes me breathless and I find it easier to stoop or kneel, though even that isn't great and my best of a bad bunch solution is to sit on the floor. It's maybe not so much the activity but the bending over that's causing the breathlessness in this instance.
Last week I had to see the doctor who asked me if my breathlessness gets in the way of me doing the housework. I said no, because I don't do any 🤣 (sorry, that's not very helpful)
I find if i squat and breath out whilst doing jobs low down it helps but if i cant do things i leave it to my husband!😂
Bending over just makes me breathless so things like hair washing i just stand in bath with shower and if i can after have a little clean on the tiles i can reach whilst in there!
Little & often it all helps. I cant hoover carpets but can do other things-ive stopped worrying about it all because i know that if i have friends who come round they come to see me not my house and im blessed to have a lovely husband who i delegate to-had to train him up as time goes by and i try not to compare with what standards im used to and just grateful that ive got someone to help me.
If i was alone i think i would ask someone or pay s cleaner for an hour just to do the jobs i cant.
Its not worth allowing house work to get on top of us-its always going to be there and the truth is we arent! Enjoy other things you like doing and delegate those you dont.
Its hard for us isnt it when we cant do the things we used to do, but there are things we can still do and enjoy.
Dont let a shower cleaning take away your joy of life.
