Fresh evidence has revealed that major tobacco companies in the UK have made attempts to continue to market their products despite the introduction of plain packaging for cigarettes nearly three years ago.
The plain packaging policy was designed to rid tobacco companies of their last remaining method for tobacco advertising. No branded packets could be printed from May 20 2016 and all cigarettes and roll-your-own tobacco had to be in plain packaging by May 20 2017. This year-long period was known as the sell-through.
It seems that they have never heard of "the spirit of law". I dare not make the comments that I wish to make in case/I know they will be deleted. Nuff said.
Okay the workers are not on the dole but that does not really stack up against the cost to the NHS of the victims of the addiction, of the misery caused and the work/wages those who have to give up work (myself not included, yet)
The cost to the NHS (or taxpayers if you like) of a hospital admission is now over £3,000 per week for the bed, that is without treatment costs.
Are you enjoying the illnesses caused by it. Will you enjoy those illnesses as they progress and multiply, will you enjoy receiving a diagnosis of Lung Cancer that has an 85% mortality rate?

You would be very naive if you thought that only those with a respiratory disease read my posts. This is an open forum which can be read by anyone, as my posts are never restricted to registered members only. You might also not be aware that "spider bots" trawl in web constantly and not just by search engines, but also public and commercial bodies utilise that software too. The more instances of a story that there are, the easier it can be picked up. The original post just shows the disrespect and contempt of the tobacco companies have for the law, the spirit of of the law and public health. They just don't care about their product killing people, they only care about money.
I know that my Emphysema will never be cured which I accept, but what I do not accept that future generations will needlessly suffer as well for the sake of tobacco company profits.

Yes i know about spiders crawling the sites to index everything i have been working online for over 30 years so not much i don't know about bots.
If future generations want to smoke that's their choice they all know how bad cigs are for them unlike we did.
I have not been arguing just having a discussion and yes your right i did read it wrong. But why does it bother me who reads my posts ? i really don't care who does i have nothing to hide and write what i think.
I really do not have the time, and too tired. A 9 1/2 hr day at work for the next couple of weeks. A holiday to prepare for, plus house work and preparing meals. Rather full days.
I know what you mean i do 18 hours a day have done for the last 10 years. Could do with an holiday myself but no one can look after my business if i do.
I sold mine 4 weeks ago, I am now working for the new owner, I should have done it years ago. No quoting for work, no accounts, no VAT and no more stress.
Whilst I agree there is an enormous cost to the NHS, there is, on the other hand, an enormous tax income from the sale of cigarettes. I do not have the figures to hand (I am on holiday in Greece) but I believe that the income outweighs the cost. I also agree with Andy56 that, if people want to smoke, knowing the risks, then they should be able to. I speak as someone with COPD, on oxygen and who gave up smoking over 20 years ago.
At today's level of tax maybe. But when I started smoking a pack of 20 was 1sh and10d, that is 9p, not much tax their. It is only in the past 10/15 years that it has got so high.
It was/is all relative. Costs were lower, incomes were lower, but proportionally it prob came out the same. As I said before, I do not have the figures to hand.
No that is wrong, the level of tobacco tax was minimal for years compared to today's tax, just pennies per pack, back in the day. Only 15% of the population now smoke instead of over 50% when I was young and buying my first packs and there was no age restriction to buying them. I am, of course, talking about my own personal tobacco tax paid over the years, not the level of tax paid by today's smokers. Never mind my treatment for Emphysema, the treatment for my Lung Cancer cost tens of thousands, and that does not cover the development costs on top.
Cigarettes alcohol drugs gambling vice are all saleable products that cause damage , we live in a free society , we are free to make a choice on whether we use these substances or not , to engage in games with a wager or succumb to certain pleasures that are widely available .As long as companies are abiding by the laws of today they must be left alone to conduct their business irrespective of whether we agree morally with that business , we choose whether to buy products or not it's a choice .
Personally I enjoyed smoking and took a chance I wouldnt be one who ended up with lung disease , I unfortunately lost that gamble but that was my choice back then , I know as we all do tobacco companies lied about the dangers of tobacco ( even the famous Marlboro man died of lung disease) and for that shame on them but it's a free world at the moment and people are more educated and informed now, let's hope smoking tobacco dies out in society but if you legislate against smoking it will go underground
Set belts, DUI, Mobile use in cars, all made illegal to save lives, freedom of choice removed, these are just a few examples. Smoking kills more per year than those examples, very illogical.
Logic is not associated with the human condition I'm afraid , climbing everest is illogical yet people do it every year and a % die , people get involved in all kinds of dangerous activities ,sports for an example yet we dont ban them why ? What about professions, certain ones are known for high stress & suicide rates yet we allow those professions ,we live thankfully in a free society or as free as we can today with the nanny state people but people must be allowed to be free and yes free to make bad choices,who shall we put in charge of what we can and cannot choose to do ? Theres nothing illogical about choice, one persons idea of something illogical to others might seem perfectly logical ,do we all want to live our lives like mr.spock ? whilst I agree certain activities need a set of rules and principles governing there sphere these must be kept to a minimum , I hate the nanny state and big government as far as I'm concerned they need to 1, get out of my pocket and 2, get out of my life , I think it was Ronald Reagan who said that .
Smoking is horrible you will not get any argument or discussion on that subject but telling people what they can and cannot do is not going to work unless there is a consensus .
The so called nanny state at work? protecting those that cannot know better, there are many arguments for and against. When it comes to protecting lives on mass, I believe that it has to be a good thing.
It isnt only boris that has become agressive not assertive but really agressive these days. Is this because we live in an ever more crowded world, I but also am sick of it.
