So does anyone else lay awake at the witching hour letting your mind take over things and is constantly battling with you so you dont get sleep.

I remember years ago I could sleep on a washing line for 10 hours solid as I get older the hours get less and I am awake before the birds most mornings I'm not complaining about it just wondering how many more of you do the same thing and plan your day ahead more than once πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ’žπŸ’ž

Morning Blackbird, Pete usually gets up between 4.30 and 5.30 but his sleep pattern depends on what’s going on in his mind or how he’s feeling health wise.

I generally sleep pretty well or I’m not worth talking too the next day! Enjoy your day and stay well. Xxx 😘πŸ₯°πŸ˜€

Thank you kind lady. Xxx πŸ‘πŸ€£πŸ˜€

I have always woken up every hour to anhour and a half all night. Since I made a plan on paper of the next day and keep my radio on radio4 extra I have been getting about 4 hours sleep at a time. I think it is the plan and refusing to let my mind go over it that may be helping.

That's good your sleeping hours have increased missyscarlet. Maybe I need to listen to the shipping lane forecast or something πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ’žπŸ’ž

I am the same, sleep for an hour or hour and a half and if I am very lucky will sleep for two hours, been like this for many years and never feel I've had enough sleep

That's quite the norm for me these days, long to have a good sleep and not constantly clock watch all through the night, with all sorts of rubbish going over and over in my mind. Often watch the dawn breaking and listen to the birds singing the dawn chorus.

I used sleep the minute my head hit the pillow.....those were the days 😴

Xxx

Happens to me every day whether I need to get up or not. Having a lay in is a distant memory now.

Hi Blackbird my husband doesn’t sleep well he lays awake half or most of the night he says he can’t switch off. I do feel for anyone who can’t switch off as I am quite lucky I go off like a light.

You are not alone many people have the same problem some friends of ours are the same too.

It’s a very interesting reading how everyone gets to sleep. If I have trouble I put an audio book on that does the trick but I am never sure what chapter I am on the next day πŸ˜‚

Memories of having the luxury of a few more hours sleep at the weekend,is a fading as each month passes!

They say we need less sleep as we get older but if I'm really unwell I find I can sleep and sleep!! I think I'm still quite lucky compared to others as I sleep quite well until 3am and then awake, going to the little girls room, put on earphones with BBC radio @4am and I drift off again by 6/7am. Then πŸ‘€, eyes wide open again no later than 8.15am. (You can probably tell I keep a sleep diary!!! πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€). πŸ’žπŸ’ž

I have slept less over the last 10 years I find that the lighter mornings are just an excuse to get up and potter round the house ...and get organised for the day ahead etc I must try radio 4 I'm still stuck as a radio 2 girl at the minute or smooth rock music...20 years ago it was radio 1 with the best hits and sounds..as we get older so does our radio listening πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ’žπŸ’ž

I am often doing a last check on the computer at 1 or 2 am, do not go to my bed until I think I can sleep. If it is very bad I put a Hypnotherapy CD on my bedside clock radio, otherwise World Service Overseas in the background. Also the clock bit has a button to press which turns off the green numbers and all else on the screen ,so the bedroom is completely dark. Try using your brain to create a story, so every night, when you lie down, you go back into the story, where you ended last night, each time you stray, drag yourself back, could end up writing a book!!

Blackbird6 profile image
Blackbird6 in reply to SORRELHIPPO

I shall mull over all ideas ...its not the actual getting to sleep...that's fine it's when I wake up and cant get back to sleep that's when my brain starts to party πŸ’žπŸ’ž

I don't go to bed until I'm tired which can be anytime after 0130 sometimes 0330 ish. When I do go to sleep which is quite quickly, I have 3 lamps on and the TV sound turned down so I can just hear it in background. .... then I sleep like a baby. πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€

Hi Gladwyn the 3 30 ish time is when I wake up after going to bed around 10.30 ish....its the getting back to sleep I find is the most important because as soon as I wake my thoughts go into action and I am awake till I get up at whatever time I move generally 4.30 ...5 ish πŸ’žπŸ’ž

I know when my mind runs riot I tell it NO NO NO very sharply lol refusing to let thoughts carry on ...... sounds daft I know but it works for me. πŸ˜€

I wake up about 3-4 times a night, down from 5-6. I have a going to bed routine which includes writing a diary after I've turned off my laptop, reading a passage from the Bible and praying for people who need help and healing. I squirt some melatonin under my tongue, cover my eyes with an eye mask and go to sleep in the dark listening to a story CD. If I waken in the night, I make myself comfortable and go back to sleep easily with the eye mask on and the ear plugs in listening to the CD. A routine put together over the years. I manage about 6.5 to 7 hours sleep in total usually - unheard of 10 years ago.

Thankyou for your prayers Ergendi. It's comforting to know prayers are being said on my behalf even though you don't know me. πŸ™πŸ’

At chair yoga yesterday our teacher asked if anyone had tried the alphabet, colour regime, especially if you awake in the night and feel you can’t get back to sleep. You go through each letter and put a colour to it, so the colours of the rainbow in repetition a suggestion. I tried it in the night and didn’t get pass E, can’t quite believe it worked, in fact twice after a trot to the loo. Good luck. X

I am exactly exact the same as you, when I wake up about 3 am my mind goes into overdrive, last night I had game of thrones running through my head (don't mind jon snow, but it's all the rest πŸ˜„)

I am very good at going to sleep but nearly always wake in the night. My radio is always on radio which turns into the world service at 1am. It is really good, very interesting programmes. Bit too interesting actually, i sometimes get engrossed and listen for an hour or so. If the radio isn't on i tend to talk to myself, that keeps me awake. Usually wake at four. I seem to get enough sleep, I'm fine during the day
