Awoke gasping for breath 5am - no bipap power or oxy - managed drag myself downstairs with torch switch oxy from concentrator to large cylinder. Lesson learnt for the winter months - keep a portable cylinder in bedroom. Not much I can do bout bipap thou when leccy goes off. Stay warm and well people.

Your utility company will have a listing for vunerable customers..........I am listed with mine.

They will make provision for anyone with medical needs, usually with a portable solution, generator, powerpack etc for equipment if the power goes off..

Get yourself listed with them and at least you will have some peace of mind.

Thank you ruach, didn't know that - will look into it. Thankfully this was the 1st time I've had a power cut while asleep.

I'm pleased you are okay. To Be Winter Ready, you should:

•Know your free emergency numbers - in a power cut dial 105 or, for a gas emergency, dial 0800 111999.

Hi Mich,

Now my oxygen needs are much higher I have the large B10 cylinders at the ready around the house. Bedroom and toilets are sure to be where I am when that inevitable power cut comes. 😁

Hi dall - I just have one b10 in living room - don't really want them all around house but I shall be keeping a portable upstairs from now on.

I use B10s now because I'm on 15litres when on the move.

400 portables were fine until around 12 months ago 😊.

I use the cylinders also for night trips to the loo because my concentrators are downstairs and on a lower setting for sleeping to moving.

My house is full of concentrators and cylinders. so I should be well sorted for those power cuts 😉

Sorry to hear you need a LOT of oxy & here am I moaning some days bout luggin my portable liquid around. Wish oxy could somehow be compressed into much smaller bottles - that wd b gd.

yeh' when I leave the house these days its like a military operation.I often go out with my wife carrying 3 liquid oxygen flasks and 3 compressed cylinders.

I've even taken a B10 on a trolley sometimes

Mind you without portable oxygen where would we be 😉

Thanx caz - just as well I had the torch handy - we usually only have the occasional power cut in the day or early eve - so this was a bit scary but I can sleep soundly knowing my portable oxy is within reach now. xx

So glad it all ended up ok for you and well done for staying in a "non-panic" mode to go downstairs to your big oxygen cylinder. (I know I'd have gone straight into a panic attack!)However, have taken your comments on board and have a spare, little cylinder under my bed for such emergencies!! Hope all went back to normal fairly soon for you and like you've said, let's all stay in the warm.

Thanx squirrels - times like these I wish I lived in a bungalow - glad my post has also helped - in keeping a spare cylinder close by but hope we don't need it. x
