Can anyone decipher these results?

Had a lung function test today... too impatient to wait until I see the consultant in a few weeks. I have bronchiectasis and ABPA. I was also being treated for asthma but the nurse mentioned that these results dont show any diff pre and post the neb which suggests it's not asthma.

How are my lungs looking in general? I'm a 42 year old woman, 20.5 bmi, non smoker.

I don't really understand it all but tlco is important one

Tlco is gas transfer i.e oxygen v co2

Your FEV1 they say is lower limit of normal i think given age.

If having troble breathing try stay clear of irritants AND try pinpoint change in habits as that can set ya asthma off.

Do you have preventer as being treated for asthma

I'm pleased with lower side of normal! Yes I take spiriva and duoresp spiromax, plus mucodyne to thin mucus and montelukast at night. I'm feeling quite well at the moment, not had any infections for a while. I suffer from severe allergies though which I know makes me make mucus! I'm also on a run of pred at the mo, tapering quickly hopefully to get my ABPA under control.... then it's a case of see what happens!

All that mucus will defo make you breathless but from what your saying sounds like good preventative regime your on

The FIRST important measure is your Fev1/Fvc ratio at 71.78%. In the uk this used to be deemed 'normal' but they decided to move it up, so now off meds & with symptoms, that'd be Obstructive pattern, confirmed as 'mild' by the Fev1 being >80% predicted.

As Jeff says, borderline normal - but ex/smoker with symptoms & those results - mild COPD.

Can I ask you soulsaver what is the significance of the MEF25 at 32%? My MEF scores are lower than the ones shown so I'm particularly interested.

MEF is the flow rate in the mid to end section of the blow. Poor results here would indicate a degree of damage is in the small airways - large airways empty first and affect the FEV1, small airways last. You'll notice in the test a long effort at the end of the blow resulting in a long tail in the graph.

There used to be an American Pulmonologist active on the webb helping people (thousands) interpret their results. He had copd... so really did know his stuff.

He used to say "..the all important measure for sustainability is your Fev1/Fvc ratio - if that remains good, don't worry about the 25/50/75 results."
