Just asking you lovely people if anyone in the caring role have experiences of work\caring role and explaining to employer I need to say stuff to my boss but feel overwhelmed and emotional at the moment when I start to talk about Mick how have you managed this situation ? also I'm new to posting so sorry if I've not replied to all of you ☺

I find it is better to write things down easier as i forget half of what I want to say or say the wrong things. If you are thinking about cutting your hours find out what you can claim for CAB are marvelous helping with various things or Job Centre might have advice. Good luck XC

Why not give the BLF team a call on their helpline? They have so much experience they will be able to offer relevant advice. They are open during office hours from Monday to Friday for anyone living in the UK to call and the number is 03000 030 555.

Write down all you feel on paper don't hesitate let the words pour out and don't worry about using big words or thinking of any ...let your emotions do the writing for you ....then read it and see how you feel about what you have written you can ad lib and bullet point on it ..then if you feel strong enough talk to your boss if not pop it all in a letter explaining you feel emotional hence the letter...its a way of opening the gates to help you communicate hope that helps you some do it in stages

Totally agree with putting it down on paper - if you are in a larger company with an HR department they can be quite helpful and show empathy.

Just an aside, sounds like your boss is a nice person (based on your comments) but, for any carer who has issues with their employer it's worth looking at "discrimination by association" - this is where the carer sort of "inherits" some rights BECAUSE of the disabled person and therefore for things like medical appointments you are as entitled to time off to attend as a disabled person!

Pammic.A lot will depend on the type and size of organisation you work for.Also if you are in a Trade union,Your boss should refer you to your HR dept where,when you feel able you will be able to explain as much as you can about your predicament,In most instances you can take a friend or your union rep for support.I ended up having to negotiate a leavers settlement/compromise agreement in order to care for my wife 24/7 but that sort of situation is hopefully not what you require at the moment.The most important thing to remember is to not try and cope alone and involve as many friends,advoctes and organisations to help you.i wish you the best of luck.
