I was up at five am this morning for my hospital visit. I know, I know another one.... So got there early. And had my 'chat' with the respiratory nurse, which is usually pleasant. I am not sure if I was just sleepy and lacking caffeine but I found it rather trying and patronising.
It went along the lines of ...
Nurse : (Checking oxygen levels) 98 That's good. Is your oxygen on?
Me: Yes...... I should turn it off since I don't need it when sitting.
Nurse: Let's turn it off and take it again (Nurse reaches into my bag to turn the oxygen off) .
Me: I can manage, thank you. ( Moving my bag out of her reach).
Me: Well no, as I said I don't need it when I'm sitting.
Nurse: So you only use ambulatory oxygen....
Me: Yes. We've spent ten unnecessary minutes establishing that. It was this hospital that provided me with oxygen. It is written in my notes right there under your nose which I can read from here. What use are notes if you don't bother to read them? π
And then the arthritis nurse..... who looked at my foreign looking name and assumed I can't speak Japanese or thought I was hard of hearing, or lack the intelligence to understand simple sentences. She drops to a squatting position and looks me squarely in the eyes and proceeds to enunciate every word as if I have to lip read. Even after I answer her in perfect Japanese. I will just say my tone was rather measured.
You must understand, I was a tad annoyed.
So for those of you who say I never moan and complain, here is proof that I do. Forgive me. ππ±ππ
I walked around the hospital looking like this I believe.........I hope you are having a good day so far. π΅π¨π§πΆπΈπΊ

Thank you fronkleblanc . My day improved considerably once I got some caffeine and put my feet up with my snoring dog. I hope your day is going well. xx π
Good morning dear Caspiana and your picture did make me chuckle. However, I do agree with you, that sometimes, just sometimes we meet supposedly professional people, who think we are unable to comprehend the very basic of. questions. I hate being spoken to as if I were a child and yet I probably don't correct the situation, as I know I need their expertise etc. You certainly have had your fill recently of hospitals and I know you were desperate to get home to be with Chom. How is he doing- up to any mischief?
Hello SquirrelsHolt . I think that may have a lot to do with it. Just having my fill of hospitals. Chom is mischievous but not terribly so. He really helps me to to relax. People always say that his life was saved because he was from a shelter. But I always tell them, he is actually saving mine. Hope you are having an okay day so far. xx π
Reminded me of Vashti and her experiences with the nurse who disapproved of her nail varnish! But there are some lovely nurses out there, hope you meet them next time! Love Iris x
Hello Iris. Indeed. I remember that one too. There are indeed many lovely ones. The one who put in my intravenous drug today was very good. Hope you are having a good day so far. xx π
Tra la la Cas! πΌ How patronising people can be and people should never assume. Just keep singing inside your head and stay calm if you can ππ³ The photo made me smile.
Have a good day after all that and don't let anyone bring you down. Always good to see you in any guise. Xxx πΈπ»πππ
Hello sassy59 . I was calm. It does take quite a bit to get me down and am feeling tons better now. Thank you for caring. How are you and Pete? Well I hope and looking forward to spring? xx π
We are good thanks Cas but l am upset right now. Just heard from daughter in law who has found out she has grade 2 breast cancer. Outlook is good but still not the news she wanted. She also has SLE. Xxxx
Oh I hate it when when anyone takes on that patronising manner with me - I'm 77 not 7, and even if they do mean to be kind, do they never ask themselves how they'd like to be talked down to? Makes me feel like hitting them, and that's way out of character for me so I know exactly you must have felt ........do think you should perhaps have had a shave though π π π π .
πππ no not ma - well not yet anyway. Luv, m'dear - (I shudder at that one) sweetheart and on one occasion dearie - who on earth calls anyone dearie anymore? Where's my shawl and clogs, oh and my old basket......may as well look the part, d'ya think an old hat with flowers in it would be a bit ott? πππ
You don't moan enough. And the way you were treated is infuriating. Do they ever look at notes? We have a very dear friend with Motor Neurone Disease and every time β everytimeβ he goes for an appointment he is asked when he first noticed his symptoms. I am asked every time if I am a smoker. Look at the notes... Look at the notes.... Shall I get a tattoo on my forehead?
Hello Kate. That's how I felt today. It seems rather futile to have a record when they aren't referred to. And joy, my Rheumatologist is leaving do have to have a new one in May. I expect there will be a lot of going over the same old information again.
Maybe not sure tattoo Kate. My droopy forehead could take it.... Sending you much love. xx
So lovely to hear that you're capable of reacting like this Caspiana - I'd love to have been a fly on the wall, it sounds hilarious! Not funny for you of course with all you've been through lately, but the thought of someone sort of mouthing Japanese at you had me in stitches! I think that would make a good Comedy Sketch. Back home with the lovely Chom now, so put your feet up and take it easy. Much love to you.
Hello Graham. I really wasn't too annoyed just a little. I am sort of used to dealing with medical professionals like all of us on here are. It was just having two in a row that made it hard. And then my doctor who inevitably tells me my face is swelling and the steroids are working every time he sees me can get me down. But that's just a minor thing and know should really be more charitable.
Cas what an ordeal, having to get up at an unearthly hour, then to be patronised and talked down to. I would have been tempted to speak back very fast in Japanese, or even add a swear word. (That is if there is such a thing as a Japanese swear word) Your people have a reputation for being very polite.I bet there aren't many Japanese yobbos.
Hahahahaha. There are many swear words in Japanese Christine and many yobbos too. π Kisses to you and of course darling George. xx π
Hi Cas. That barely qualifies as a moan! You have to wonder where they find some of the people they employ. Sorry to hear you are going through the mill. By the way, great photo. X
Hello there. Not too bad. Had lots of hospital appointments and a couple of scares but all good now. Builders have nearly finished so looking forward to some peaceful times (I hope). Keeping my fingers crossed for you too xx
Hello Caspiana, not too bad thanks - not able to work at present which is a bit of a downer - however weekends are always nice with family. Hope you have a lovely weekend xx
Hello Caspiana great photo, take care and Chom also. π πΆ X
After reading your last post, I also did some thinking about how difficult it is to keep ones head above water sometimes. We can't always be on form enough not to be vulnerable. That's being human. To be honest, I admire your determination and strength to endure whatever life throws at you. Somehow though you find a way to rise above it.
A bit of a trying day for me actually, but that is another matter and not to do with my lung infection. I don't stay down for long, because I write. This helps put things into perspective, even when life is painful, I keep my self respect.
Hello Aidi-Joll . I'm sorry. Things can truly suck at times. Tomorrow is another day . I hope it gets better for you. π»πΏπΉπ·πΏ What do you write about , if you don't mind me asking? xx
